Ibstock's Chailey Factory, located near Lewes in East Sussex, is one of the company's most historic manufacturing sites and plays an important role in supplying high-quality clay brick products to the UK construction industry.
With a heritage of over 300 years of continuous brickmaking, the site combines traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing principles, producing distinctive clay brick products using locally sourced Wealden clay. Safety is at the heart of the site's operations, underpinning its commitment to manufacturing excellence, environmental responsibility, product quality and continuous improvement.
The factory's focus on maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, alongside operational efficiency and sustainability, reflects Ibstock's wider vision of creating inspirational homes, places and spaces across Britain.
The Production Manager role is central to supporting the Factory Manager in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable manufacturing operations. Leading multiple teams within a continuous manufacturing environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental and quality standards, and driving performance through effective leadership and communication.
Key Responsibilities:

The development and promotion through effective communication of Company, Factory and team plans and their focused implementation to achieve defined objectives

People Management, motivation and structured development of the team through performance review to ensure delivery of objectives through Team working.

Rigorous application of the Ibstock Manufacturing system to deliver Continuous Improvement across all areas of Manufacturing

Implementation of and adherence to all Company and Factory control procedures to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements in Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality

The collection, assimilation and analysis of production and process data and its effective use to develop and achieve key targets and objectives

The development of systems and standards to deliver world-class standards of housekeeping using the 5S principles

Procurement of production materials, goods and services within defined areas of the production environment

Effective interdepartmental liaison to achieve defined objectives
Essential Qualifications & Experience:

A Proven track record in a continuous manufacturing environment at the level advertised or above

A high degree of self-motivation

The ability to self-manage and adjust to changing business needs

The ability to understand, accept and achieve targets and deadlines

Demonstrable organisational skills including efficient planning and implementation of systems and procedures

Leadership and people management skills and the ability to build, motivate, develop and improve the team

Demonstrable ability to implement structured problem solving techniques
