About the role

This is a specialist regulatory support role at the heart of the Electoral Commission's decision-making processes. As a Regulatory Panel Support Officer, you will provide operational and analytical support to the Commission's regulatory panels while managing a portfolio of regulatory imprints casework. Your work will help ensure regulatory decisions are fair, consistent, evidence-based and aligned with legislative requirements.

On a day-to-day basis, you will review referrals and case documentation, ensure submissions meet regulatory and quality standards, prepare panel papers, record panel decisions, analyse outcomes and trends, and manage reports relating to non-compliant campaign materials. The role provides exposure to regulatory decision-making, governance, legislation, compliance and stakeholder management across a range of teams and disciplines.

Key responsibilities include:

Reviewing referral submissions to ensure they meet regulatory and Quality Management System (QMS) standards
Preparing and coordinating documentation for regulatory decision-making panels
Recording panel decisions accurately and monitoring the implementation of outcomes
Analysing panel decisions, casework activity and regulatory trends to support continuous improvement
Applying legislation, guidance and regulatory procedures to support consistent decision-making
Managing a portfolio of regulatory imprints casework and assessing evidence against legal requirements
Preparing case summaries, recommendations and stakeholder correspondence
Building effective working relationships with colleagues across compliance, enforcement, legal, intelligence and governance functions
Identify and escalate procedural issues and risks including: identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending actions that strengthen internal regulatory process, controls and quality standards

About the team

You will join the Regulatory Support function within the Electoral Administration and Regulation Directorate. The team works closely with compliance, enforcement, legal, intelligence and governance colleagues to support fair, consistent and evidence-based regulatory outcomes.

The team plays an essential role in maintaining public confidence in electoral regulation and ensuring robust governance and decision-making processes across the Commission. It is a collaborative and supportive environment where colleagues work together to solve complex challenges, improve processes and support the Commission's evolving regulatory responsibilities.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with complex information and applying legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks to real-world situations. You will be comfortable reviewing evidence, making recommendations, maintaining high standards of accuracy and constructively challenging stakeholders when required.

This role would be particularly well suited to candidates with experience in regulation, compliance, governance, legal support, investigations, audit, casework, public administration or risk management.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Experience managing or coordinating regulatory, compliance, governance, legal or casework activities
Experience reviewing complex or non-standard information and making evidence-based recommendations
Experience handling sensitive information and maintaining accurate records within compliance, governance or audit frameworks
Experience constructively challenging stakeholders to ensure compliance with policies, procedures or regulatory standards
The ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulatory guidance and procedural frameworks consistently
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
The ability to influence and challenge stakeholders appropriately
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, case management systems and other digital collaboration tools
