Salary - Up to £45,000.00

Location - Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA

Pattern of Work – 36.5 hours, Monday - Friday

What you need to know about the role

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to support and enhance production-critical systems across Ironmaking, Steelmaking, and the Rolling Mills.

This role combines hands-on development, system integration, and operational support within a complex OT environment spanning both modern platforms and legacy systems. You will play a key role in improving system reliability, data integrity, and the ongoing modernisation of process control systems.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and support applications using C#, Python, PHP, and SQL across multiple plant areas
Design, maintain, and optimise databases, interfaces, and data pipelines
Troubleshoot issues across real-time and near-real-time system integrations
Support and enhance operational reporting and dashboards (e.g. Grafana / Power BI)
Work on legacy systems (Fortran, VAX/VMS, Alpha) and contribute to migration/modernisation
Support virtualisation/emulation of legacy systems and integration with modern platforms
Ensure data accuracy, availability, and reliability across process control systems
Collaborate with operations, process engineers, and IT teams to resolve production issues
Follow and contribute to change control, version control (Git), and deployment practices
Identify and deliver improvements in system performance, resilience, and maintainability

What we need to know about you

Essential

Strong experience with C#, Python, PHP, or SQL.
Solid grasp of relational databases and data modelling.
Hands‑on work with integrated systems and data flows.
Proven troubleshooting in complex production environments.
Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and Git.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.

Desirable

Experience in industrial or manufacturing systems.
Exposure to data visualisation tools like Grafana or Power BI.
Knowledge of APIs and integration patterns.
Familiarity with Linux/Windows servers.
Background in legacy system support.
Interest in analytics and automation.

Calm, methodical approach under pressure.
Proactive, reliability‑focused mindset.
Effective communication with technical and operational teams.
