Full job description

Purchasing Assistant

AJN Steelstock Ltd are looking for a keen individual to assist and support the steel purchasing function, working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Hours: 08.30 - 17.00/40 hours per week/Monday - Friday (30 minute unpaid break)

Experience: Administration and Microsoft knowledge is essential. Stock control or purchasing experience would be beneficial.

Salary starting from £26,500, range is dependant on experience.

Duties include:

Supporting the Purchasing team with administration work (entering purchase orders, checking order acknowledgements, updating prices and delivery dates)
Arranging deliveries to distribution sites in Kentford and Henstridge. Liaising with suppliers and freight forwarders
Dealing with Sales enquiries, sourcing material, negotiating prices and arranging delivery
Reporting any market information/trends to senior management/directors
Supplying cover for colleagues during times of absence and holidays
Dealing with general queries on product and pricing
Managing stock and materials to ensure efficient delivery of products to customers
Maintaining strong relationships with Ports by conducting regular meetings and feeding information back to the Purchasing Director
Handling customs/import declarations
Attending all coaching/training courses internal and external as and when required
Following all safe systems of work at all times. Identifying and reporting any shortcomings that become apparent whilst undertaking tasks or if the tasks change or new activities are undertaken. Liaising with the HS&E department to ensure such risks are assessed and procedures amended as necessary
Actively engaging in the identification of risks within the workplace and the subsequent assessment development of suitable safe systems of work. When necessary, intervening to prevent breaches of health and safety and/or report as necessary

Following the requirements of the Company Quality Management Systems, policies and procedures to help achieve a quality product for the customer and reduce the non-conformances
Following the requirements of the Company Environmental Management System to assist the Company’s objective to reduce the detrimental effect on the environment by way of waste management and any other areas to improve the environmental impact

Job Type: Full-time
