Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Extrusion Reliability Engineer to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of extrusion processes used in plastics manufacturing. Your expertise will drive continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement preventative maintenance strategies to maximize equipment uptime and product quality. Responsibilities
- Improve equipment reliability by identifying and eliminating recurring mechanical, electrical, or process failures.
- Reduce unplanned downtime through preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Analyse failures using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor equipment performance using reliability metrics such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- Optimise extrusion processes to maintain product quality, throughput, and consistency.
- Collaborate with the wider engineering and operations teams to improve machine performance and lifecycle costs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
Activities
- Leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations into equipment failures and recurring issues
- Carrying out Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) to improve asset reliability
- Developing and implementing predictive maintenance strategies within the extrusion department.
- Performing condition monitoring activities including vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis and LDAR inspections
- Analysing condition monitoring data and producing technical reports with recommendations
- Supporting Maintenance Teams and Plant Operators to maximise plant availability
- Identifying opportunities for asset improvements and maintenance optimisation
- Managing maintenance activities through the internal system
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with Health, Safety and Environmental standards
To be considered for this role you must be able to demonstrate the following;
- Your are fully apprenticeship-trained with a formal engineering qualification and practical engineering expertise
- You have 3yrs minimum engineering experience
- You are Multiskilled - Electrical & Mechanical
- ONC in either Elec/Mech
- You have 17th or 18th Edition BS7671 qualification
- Experience with Blown film or plastic extrusion. Including Heaters, thermocouples, die strips and cleans.
- You are able to fault find and read wiring diagrams
