AJ Wakely & Sons is a long-established, family-owned funeral business serving communities across East Devon. We operate two well-respected funeral offices Northcott Brothers in Sidmouth and JF Clarke & Son in Axminster and we are looking for a compassionate, dedicated individual to join our team as a Trainee Funeral Director.
No previous experience in funeral care is required. We will provide full, structured training. What we cannot teach is the character this role demands and that is what we are looking for.
About the role
Based across our Sidmouth and Axminster offices, you will work alongside our experienced Funeral Directors to learn every aspect of the profession. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting bereaved families through the arrangement process with empathy and professionalism
- Assisting in the care and preparation of the deceased with dignity and respect
- Attending and conducting funeral services
- Completing legal and administrative documentation accurately
- Carrying out transfers of the deceased
- Maintaining our vehicles, premises, and equipment to the highest standard

Essential requirements
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Physically able to assist with manual handling
- Flexibility to work on a rota including evenings and weekends
- Smart, professional appearance at all times
- Willingness to travel between our Sidmouth and Axminster offices
