The Role
We are looking for an experienced and inspiring General Manager to lead Mare Street Market Kings Cross.
As General Manager, you will take full ownership of the venue’s operational performance, financial success, team culture and guest experience. You will lead from the floor, drive standards across all departments and ensure the venue operates efficiently while delivering exceptional hospitality.
You will work closely with senior leadership, kitchen management and support teams to maximise revenue opportunities, maintain strong profit margins and build a high-performing culture that reflects the energy and creativity of the venue.
This is a role for a confident hospitality leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume environments and understands how to balance people, product, service and commercial performance.
What You’ll Be DoingLeadership & Team Management
- Leading, motivating and developing front-of-house and management teams to create a positive, high-performing culture
- Recruiting, onboarding and training team members across the venue
- Managing rotas and labour budgets using Deputy to ensure efficient staffing levels
- Conducting regular performance reviews, coaching and development conversations
- Driving team engagement, accountability and progression across all departments
- Supporting and mentoring Assistant General Managers, supervisors and department heads in their progression
- Ensuring all staff complete compliance and operational training through company platforms including Flow
- Maintaining a visible and hands-on presence on the floor during service
- Creating a culture of professionalism, hospitality and operational excellence
Venue Operations
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of the venue, ensuring smooth and efficient operations across all departments
- Managing opening and closing procedures and ensuring operational readiness at all times
- Working collaboratively with the Head Chef and kitchen team to ensure a seamless guest experience
- Monitoring standards of cleanliness, presentation and maintenance throughout the venue
- Overseeing stock management processes, ordering, deliveries and weekly stock counts using MarketMan
- Ensuring all department responsibilities are completed consistently and to company standards
- Managing reservations flow, guest experience and service delivery during busy trading periods
- Driving operational consistency while maintaining the creative identity and atmosphere of the venue
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, efficiency and overall site performance
Guest Experience
- Delivering exceptional customer service standards across all areas of the business
- Building strong relationships with regular guests, local businesses and the wider community
- Handling guest feedback, complaints and service recovery professionally and proactively
- Creating a welcoming, energetic and inclusive environment for guests and staff
- Ensuring the venue consistently delivers memorable hospitality experiences
- Maintaining strong standards of music, atmosphere, presentation and service throughout trading hours
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Taking full ownership of the venue P&L and working to meet and exceed financial targets
- Managing labour costs, wet and dry GP margins and operational expenditure
- Driving revenue growth through events, activations, upselling and local marketing initiatives
- Analysing sales performance and implementing strategies to improve profitability
- Monitoring stock control, waste management and purchasing efficiencies
- Preparing and delivering weekly business reports to senior leadership
- Supporting business development opportunities and identifying areas for commercial growth
- Ensuring financial controls are managed correctly
Compliance & Health & Safety
- Ensuring full compliance with UK licensing laws, Challenge 25 and alcohol service regulations
- Maintaining all health & safety, food safety and fire safety procedures across the venue
- Carrying out due diligence procedures, risk assessments and compliance checks
- Ensuring all legal documentation, training records and certifications are up to date
- Maintaining strong relationships with local authorities and external stakeholders where required
- Ensuring all staff have the right to work in the UK and are fully onboarded onto relevant systems
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a General Manager within a high-volume hospitality environment
- Strong leadership experience across food-led and late-night operations
- Proven ability to manage large teams and develop future leaders
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing P&L performance, labour and GP targets
- Excellent operational and organisational skills
- A hands-on leadership style with strong floor presence
- Experience managing high-energy venues with multiple revenue streams
- Strong understanding of licensing, compliance and health & safety regulations
- Calm and confident decision-making under pressure
- Excellent communication and people management skills
- Passion for hospitality, guest experience and team culture
- A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
- Experience working with creative, community-driven or lifestyle hospitality brands is advantageous

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
