About Us
MattressNextDay is a multi-award-winning online bed and mattress retailer, known for our vast product range, market-leading delivery speeds and exceptional customer experience. We're in an exciting phase of sustained growth — launching a new D2C brand website and scaling our Amazon presence — and we're building the team to match.
This is a newly created role within our Buying team, and a genuine opportunity to help shape how we plan, buy, and trade as we move into our next chapter.
The Role
Reporting to the Buying Manager, you'll take ownership of demand forecasting and inventory replenishment across your assigned suppliers, ensuring the right stock is in the right place at the right time. Warehouse capacity is at a premium, so getting the stock mix right is critical. You'll be as focused on holding the right stock as you are on having enough of it. You'll be the go-to person for stock health, reducing excess and slow-moving inventory, improving fill rates, and minimising lost sales through stockouts.
This is a role with real autonomy. As you settle in, you'll build deep expertise and ownership across your supplier base, and you'll have the opportunity to help shape processes and improve the systems we use.
What You'll Be Doing
- Using Netstock, Excel, and Omni (our AI-powered BI platform) to forecast demand, analyse stock performance, and drive replenishment decisions
- Analysing historical sales data to build accurate forward forecasts, accounting for seasonality, promotions, and wider trading activity
- Optimising stockholding to ensure warehouse capacity is used effectively, reducing excess and slow-moving stock while maintaining availability on the lines that matter most
- Raising, managing, and amending purchase orders — including increasing, cancelling, or adjusting orders as requirements change and forecasts move
- Chasing supplier deliveries and proactively managing inbound stock flow
- Monitoring and reporting on stock positions, flagging risks, and recommending actions at bi-weekly meetings with the Buying Manager
- Collaborating with the Marketing team to factor promotions and campaigns into demand plans
- Working with the Warehouse team on capacity planning and inbound scheduling
- Supporting the business as it launches a second brand and grows its Amazon channel
- Attend supplier meetings to gain visibility into promotional plans, trade activity, and sales initiatives that will inform demand forecast decisions
- Routinely distritute forward-looking demand forecasts to suppliers, enabling them to plan production and manage capacity
- Liase with Finance on projected replenishment spend to support accurate budgeting and financial forecasting
KPIs
Success in this role will be measured against three core metrics:
- Fill Rate — percentage of time stocked lines have been in stock over the last 30 days, rolling average
- Lost Sales — value of sales lost through stockouts, tracked and minimised over time
- Excess Stock — value of surplus inventory held beyond required levels, with a focus on continuous reduction
- Forecast accuracy — forecasted sales vs. actual for given period
Soft KPIs include warehouse capacity, lead time management, supplier comminication, etc.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in demand planning, or inventory planning — ideally 2–4+ years
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interrogate data and turn it into clear, actionable recommendations
- Confident using Excel for analysis
- A proactive, ownership mindset — someone who flags problems early and brings solutions
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Experience with BI reporting tools — Omni experience a bonus
Desirable:
- Experience with Netstock or a similar demand planning/inventory management tool
- Background working with overseas suppliers and imports (particularly far-east)
