Full job description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Male Complex Care Personal Assistant to support an adult man with a high-level spinal cord injury in his own home.

The role involves person-centred support during 24-hour shifts, including personal care, catheter care, medication support, hoisting and positioning, monitoring oxygen levels, and assisting with BiPAP and respiratory equipment. Awareness of autonomic dysreflexia and experience with spinal injuries or complex care would be beneficial. Full person-specific training and shadow shifts will be provided.

This will initially be a bank/relief position with no guaranteed weekly hours. There may be an opportunity for the role to increase to approximately 48 hours per week in the future. Applicants must be dependable, calm under pressure and comfortable providing intimate personal care.

Due to the intimate personal-care requirements and the service user’s privacy and dignity, this role is restricted to male applicants as a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

Duties:

Providing personal care while maintaining privacy and dignity Supporting with washing, dressing and grooming Catheter and stoma-site care, including monitoring drainage and reporting concerns Administering or supporting with prescribed medication in accordance with the care plan Assisting with BiPAP, oxygen, nebuliser and other respiratory equipment Monitoring oxygen saturation, blood pressure and general wellbeing Recognising and responding appropriately to autonomic dysreflexia and respiratory concerns Repositioning and supporting pressure-area care Using a mobile hoist and sling safely with a second carer when required Assisting with transfers between the bed, wheelchair and other equipment Preparing meals, drinks and providing general household support Supporting independence, companionship and daily activities Completing accurate care notes, medication records and incident reports Providing overnight monitoring and assistance during 24-hour shifts Following the individual care plan, risk assessments and emergency procedures Communicating clearly with family members, other carers and healthcare professionals Attending required training and person-specific shadow shifts

Experience:

Previous experience in complex care, spinal cord injury care or working as a healthcare assistant/support worker is preferred.

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

BiPAP, oxygen or respiratory support• Catheter and stoma-site care• Autonomic dysreflexia• Hoisting, transfers and safe positioning• Pressure-area care• Medication administration• Monitoring oxygen saturation and blood pressure• Completing care notes and medication records

Applicants must be calm, reliable and willing to complete all required training and person-specific shadow shifts. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Pay: £14.00-£17.50 per hour
