What we are looking for:
Are you an experienced and hands-on leader with a background in composite and GRP manufacturing, we are looking for a proactive and motivated Senior Line Leader to join our production team and help drive performance, quality and safety on our shop floor.
This role is within a fast paced GRP production environment, ensuring that daily targets are met whilst upholding high standards of workmanship and workplace safety.
The Role:
Purpose
To oversee the safe, efficient, and effective operation of multiple production lines within the GRP manufacturing facility, ensuring production plans are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The Senior Line Leader is responsible for leading Line Leaders and Production Operatives, supporting operational performance, and driving continuous improvement across their area of responsibility. The role reports directly to the Production/Planning Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and coordinate the daily operation of multiple production lines to achieve production schedules, operational targets, and customer requirements.
- Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with quality specifications and company standards.
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Maximise productivity through the effective utilisation of labour, equipment, and materials.
- Monitor production performance and take appropriate action to minimise downtime, waste, and rework.
- Work closely with the Production/Planning Manager to achieve departmental objectives and production priorities.
- Develop and coach Line Leaders and Production Operatives to build capability and improve team performance.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership across designated production lines, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to agreed production standards.
- Lead by example, promoting professionalism, accountability, and a positive working culture.
- Ensure all team members comply with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures, and safe working practices.
- Monitor production output against plan, identifying issues early and taking appropriate action to maintain performance.
- Ensure products meet the required quality standards and specifications, promptly notifying the Quality Inspector of any non-conforming products or process issues.
- Coordinate labour, materials, equipment, and resources to meet production priorities.
- Ensure production equipment and tooling are used correctly and that any faults or defects are reported promptly to the Production/Planning Manager.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation throughout the production area.
- Ensure all production records, quality documentation, and manufacturing paperwork are completed accurately and on time.
- Carry out routine production and quality checks to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Assist in investigating production issues, supporting root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, efficiency, and reduce waste.
- Communicate production progress, priorities, resource requirements, and operational issues effectively to the Production/Planning Manager.
- Train, coach, and mentor Line Leaders and Production Operatives, supporting skills development and succession planning.
- Support employee performance, attendance, and development in conjunction with the Production/Planning Manager.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between Production, Quality, Planning, and Stores.
- Act as the first point of escalation for operational issues across the production lines.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within GRP, composites, fibreglass, plastics, or a similar industrial manufacturing sector.
- Proven experience leading production teams within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Effective problem-solving, root cause analysis, and decision-making skills.
- Experience of driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, and quality standards.
- Competent in completing production documentation and maintaining accurate production records.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a Supervisor role, Senior Team Leader, or similar production leadership role.
- Good understanding of UK Health & Safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lead multiple production lines while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative, prioritise workloads, and make sound operational decisions.
