The role:
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated part-time, permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Team in East Renfrewshire.
We are a supportive team of 11 registered and non-registered practitioners who are based in Barrhead Health and Care Centre and Eastwood Health and Care Centre. The successful candidate will be part of a community Team of SLT’s who are well supported by the SLT Leadership Team.
You will work closely with children and their families and with colleagues within Specialist Children’s Services, the Neurodevelopmental Team, Paediatrics, Health Visiting, Education and Social Work to promote understanding of communication differences.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Key responsibilities:
You will assess, diagnose and provide therapy for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties and/or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, including planning and delivering specialised therapy programmes tailored to individual needs, including complex cases. You will manage and prioritise your own specialist caseload as an autonomous practitioner, analysing client risk and need while ensuring effective supervision of work delegated to Clinical Support Workers.
You will actively participate in clinical supervision, peer review, operational management and Care Aims processes to support the effective delivery of Speech and Language Therapy services. Where appropriate, you will review referrals in partnership with the SLT Team Leader/SLT Manager within the locality team and make decisions regarding onward referral to other agencies such as CAMHS, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Educational Psychology for further assessment or diagnosis.
You will evaluate therapy programmes and monitor patient progress using evidence-based practice throughout the care pathway, making decisions regarding discharge from the service when appropriate. Accurate and contemporaneous clinical records, reports and documentation must be maintained in line with professional standards, confidentiality requirements and the Data Protection Act.
The role requires close collaborative working with education staff, families and medical colleagues to develop and implement individual education plans and agreed goals, ensuring effective multi-professional working. You will also contribute to joint assessments and differential diagnoses as part of a multidisciplinary team and attend and contribute to uni-professional and multi-professional meetings and case conferences relating to individual clients.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Appropriate Ordinary/Honours degree in Speech and Language Pathology or equivalent

Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist awarded by RCSLT

Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience working with a paediatric caseload

Knowledge within a specialist Speech and Language Therapy clinical area, supported by post graduate qualification or equivalent experience
