Growing Supervisor – Container Production
Location: Maelor Forest Nurseries, Fields Farm, Bronington, Wrexham, SY13 3HZ.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Growing Supervisor to join our Container Production team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong horticultural knowledge who enjoys leading people and takes pride in producing high-quality plants.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of crop production within our container growing unit, ensuring plants are grown to specification, delivered on time and produced efficiently. Working closely with the wider production team, you will lead, mentor and support colleagues while driving continuous improvements in quality, productivity and customer service.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the daily growing operations within the container production unit.

Manage crop health, irrigation, growing environments and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Deliver the production plan while minimising waste and maximising plant quality.

Implement and monitor fertiliser and agrochemical programmes.

Carry out weekly crop walks and maintain accurate production and disease reporting.

Ensure crops consistently meet customer quality specifications.

Lead, train, motivate and develop the growing team.

Drive continuous improvements in growing systems, efficiency and productivity.

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental and quality standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and other company procedures.

Maintain accurate records and documentation.

Support wider production activities and deputise for the Container Unit Manager when required.

Contribute ideas to improve plant quality, reduce waste, enhance efficiency and strengthen teamwork across the business.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:

Proven experience growing plants to a high commercial standard.

A strong horticultural background (experience with similar crops is desirable but not essential).

PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Experience leading, coaching or mentoring a team.

Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

The ability to prioritise work and remain calm under pressure.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.

A sound understanding of quality systems and compliance.

A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
-
Formal horticultural qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Knowledge of Lean or continuous improvement principles.

Experience working within commercial nursery or container production environments.
Working Hours
-
40 hours per week.
-
This role falls under the Agricultural Wages Board (Wales) Order.
-
Due to the seasonal nature of the business, additional hours may be required during peak periods.

Participation in a weekend and holiday duty rota is required.
