Operations Technician Exeter
Location: Exeter, Devon EX5 1SD.
Salary: £37,500 per year
Contract: Full‑time
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (12‑hour shifts, days and nights)
We are looking for Operations Technicians for our Energy from Waste (EfW) Thermal Oil Plant in Exeter, Devon.
Brooke Energy is seeking committed and capable Operations Technicians to support the safe, efficient and continuous operation of our Energy from Waste (EfW) Thermal Oil Plant in Exeter. This role forms an integral part of a 24/7 operational team responsible for optimising plant performance and ensuring reliable heat and electrical output.
Role Overview
Working as part of a team of eight Technicians, you will contribute to the day‑to‑day running of the facility, including fuel management, plant optimisation and control room operations. During night shifts, you will also be responsible for the monitoring and operation of all established Brooke Energy CHP assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating the plant in a safe, compliant and efficient manner, including fuel processing, furnace and boiler optimisation, Thermal Oil systems, pumps, fans, ORC Turbine Generator, conveyors, ash handling and water treatment systems
- Conducting routine plant inspections, walk‑arounds and accurate record‑keeping in line with management system requirements
- Performing daily and first‑line maintenance activities
- Undertaking control room duties, including:
- First‑line fault diagnosis and technical support
- Responding to alarms promptly and appropriately
- Completing operational logs and ensuring accurate shift handovers
- Supporting planned shutdowns, breakdown response and maintenance activities
- Adhering to all operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Health & Safety requirements and environmental compliance standards
- Carrying out duties in a reliable, flexible and professional manner, and supporting colleagues as required
Candidate Requirements
We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate the following:
- Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in operations or maintenance within Power, Utilities, Agricultural or similar technical environments
- A sound understanding of safe working systems, including plant isolations
- Experience working with SCADA systems
- Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, including nights (subject to health surveillance)
- Mechanical or Electrical qualifications are advantageous but not essential
- Forklift operation experience is beneficial; training will be provided where required
