Your next role
We are pleased to offer a employment opportunity for two dedicated and proactive Waste Collection Officers to join our Inclusive Economy & Sustainability Directorate. This is a key operational role, responsible for supervising and coordinating Waste & Recycling services across the Borough to ensure high‑quality, efficient and customer‑focused delivery.
You’ll work closely with frontline teams, manage daily service operations, and play a vital part in improving environmental outcomes for our residents. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, can remain calm under pressure, and brings a positive, solutions‑focused approach to their work.
What you’ll be doing
- Supervising and supporting frontline Waste & Recycling colleagues to deliver high‑quality services
- Coordinating daily operational resources, routes and schedules to ensure services run efficiently and within budget
- Overseeing distribution of work, materials, vehicles and equipment
- Monitoring performance against Quality Standards, SLAs and KPIs, including inspections and risk audits
- Responding to priority requests from residents, Elected Members and partners
- Identifying service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and environmental outcomes
- Ensuring safe working practices, including completing Risk Assessments, Method Statements and toolbox talks
- Supporting recruitment, training, sickness management and other staff supervision duties
- Producing reports, letters and documentation as required
- Driving operational routes when necessary to support service delivery
- Managing stock for waste services, including containers, sacks and recycling materials
- Supporting green waste collections, including processing income
- Providing assistance at Household Waste Recycling Centres when required
- Working flexibly, including unsociable hours, to meet service needs
About you
You’ll bring experience, confidence and a commitment to delivering excellent services. We’re looking for someone who has:
- Experience supervising staff in a Waste & Recycling operational environment
- Strong knowledge of workplace Health & Safety
- A clean driving licence, a HGV and up to date CPC is desirable.
- The ability to make effective decisions quickly and work on your own initiative
- A calm, organised approach with the ability to balance competing demands
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
- Competence in using IT systems, including Microsoft applications and management information systems
- A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
