Northwood Hospital is one of Bristol's newest and most exciting private healthcare facilities. Opened in October 2025, our purpose-built hospital has been designed to deliver exceptional patient care within a modern, premium clinical environment.
Conveniently located close to the M32 and Bristol Parkway Station, the hospital features two state-of-the-art operating theatres, an eight-bed inpatient ward, a six-bed day case suite, and three outpatient consulting rooms.
We currently specialise in plastic and reconstructive surgery and are embarking on an exciting period of growth, with plans to expand our surgical services into general, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology, with ongoing plans for service expansion.
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Bank Theatre Assistants (Healthcare Assistants) to support our perioperative team on an as-required basis. This role offers flexibility while providing the opportunity to work within a high-quality private hospital environment.
The Opportunity
As a Bank Theatre Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of surgical services. Working alongside Theatre Practitioners, Consultants, Anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help maintain excellent standards of patient care and theatre support.
This role is ideal for experienced Healthcare Assistants seeking flexible working arrangements, additional shifts, or exposure to a modern private healthcare setting.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Support patients before and after surgery, ensuring comfort, dignity and reassurance at all times.
- Assist with admissions, transfers and discharge processes.
- Provide compassionate support to patients and relatives throughout their hospital journey.
- Assist clinical staff with routine patient care and observations as delegated.
Theatre Support
- Prepare theatres and clinical areas for operating lists.
- Assist with patient positioning and safe transfers.
- Support theatre teams during procedures as required.
- Ensure equipment, consumables and theatre supplies are stocked and available.
- Assist with specimen handling and transportation in accordance with hospital procedures.
Environment & Safety
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention throughout theatre areas.
- Follow hospital policies relating to health and safety, PPE and clinical governance.
- Complete routine equipment and environmental checks.
- Report equipment faults, incidents or hazards promptly.
Teamwork & Flexibility
- Work collaboratively with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support efficient theatre utilisation and patient flow.
- Adapt to varying workloads and changing service demands.
- Be available to work a range of shifts, including weekdays, evenings, weekends and occasional short-notice cover where required.

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant, Theatre Assistant, Clinical Support Worker or similar healthcare role.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and safeguarding principles.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible approach to working patterns.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an operating theatre environment.
- Experience within an independent or private healthcare setting.
- Care Certificate.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
- Moving and Handling training.
