At Smplicare, we build simple, smart technology to help prevent falls in later life. As we enter a new phase of large-scale partnerships, we’re looking for a Project Coordinator to support the delivery of STEADI, an innovative research and development project funded by Scottish Enterprise.
About this role
This is a cross-functional role at the heart of our research & development projects. You’ll coordinate the critical activities of the research project to support wearable data collection from older adult participants, project reporting and stakeholder engagement. Your work will directly support our team and partners to deliver the project well and build the evidence needed to make consumer wearable data useful for health technology.
Smplicare is a small, growing digital health company. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with colleagues across product, research, data, implementation and company leadership. You’ll gain unusually comprehensive experience of how a digital health product is developed, tested and introduced into real services, and you’ll be expected to contribute ideas, solve problems and take increasing ownership as you grow into the role.
This role would suit someone at an early stage in their career who wants more responsibility and variety than they might receive in a larger organisation. You won’t be expected to arrive knowing everything. You will be expected to learn quickly, stay organised, get involved and care about making the work succeed.
About Project STEADI
Wearable devices such as Fitbit, Garmin and Apple Watch collect information that can help identify changes in an older person’s activity, sleep and health. However, each manufacturer measures and calculates this information differently, so the same activity may produce different results on different devices. Smplicare aims to develop a consistent approach for interpreting data across wearable brands, allowing us to offer fall-prevention insights to more people and support them to remain independent for longer.
Through Project STEADI, Smplicare will work with older adults and research partners to understand these differences. Older adult participants will wear two devices at the same time, allowing us to compare how each records the same period of daily life. We will then develop and test ways of converting the data into a consistent form that Smplicare’s fall-risk technology can use. This process is known as normalisation.
The goal is not to make every device produce identical numbers, but to ensure they provide an equivalent understanding of meaningful change. This could include recognising that someone is becoming less active or experiencing disrupted sleep, whichever supported device they use. If successful, Project STEADI will give users greater choice and enable Smplicare’s fall-prevention technology to work with a much wider range of consumer wearables.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate day-to-day delivery of Project STEADI, keeping plans, milestones, dependencies, risks and actions up to date.
- Coordinate participant recruitment and paired-device data collection with our research partners, including communications, scheduling, documentation and device logistics.
- Monitor recruitment, participation, device wear, data completeness and overall delivery progress, identifying issues and coordinating action early.
- Keep internal teams and external partners aligned by organising meetings, recording decisions and following up agreed actions.
- Maintain accurate project evidence for Scottish Enterprise reporting, including progress against milestones, outputs, expenditure and supporting documentation.
- Support user testing, product activity, stakeholder engagement and the preparation of project updates and presentations.
- Contribute to other Smplicare initiatives as priorities develop, including AI-enabled personalisation, customer pilots and new health and care implementations.
What we’re looking for
We’re open to applicants at the beginning of their careers. Evidence that you can organise complex work, communicate clearly and take responsibility matters more to us than a particular job title or number of years’ experience.
- Some experience of coordinating projects, activities or events, gained through employment, an internship, a placement, voluntary work or university.
- A strong track record of keeping complex work organised across multiple people, tasks, deadlines and dependencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work with technical colleagues, researchers, partners and study participants.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate plans, records, trackers and project evidence.
- Confidence using project management tools, spreadsheets and shared documentation (such as Jira, Miro and Google Workspace).
- An organised, practical and proactive approach: you spot gaps, follow up actions and escalate risks early.
- An interest in digital health and in improving later life; you do not need to be a software engineer or data scientist.
- Willingness to work flexibly in a small startup and travel occasionally to partner or study sites.
- Willingness to support older adults with varying levels of digital experience.
Nice to have
- Experience working in digital health, health or care research, ageing, falls prevention, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating participant recruitment, research activity or real-world data collection.
- Familiarity with wearable technology, digital products or projects involving data from different devices.
- Experience supporting an R&D grant or publicly funded innovation project, including evidence gathering and reporting.
- Understanding of research ethics, information governance or data protection in a health or care context.
