HR & Payroll Officer
To commence as soon as possible
We are seeking a professional, responsive and effective person to offer HR support across the school. The HR & Payroll Officer will assist with a wide range of day-to-day people matters, HR administration, recruitment and payroll processes. The postholder will support the Head of Human Resources in all HR related matters.
The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:
- Supporting end-to-end recruitment activity, including advertising roles, coordinating shortlisting and interviews, and ensuring a positive candidate experience
- Managing onboarding processes, including pre-employment checks, contracts, and induction coordination in line with safer recruitment requirements
- Processing employee lifecycle changes such as new starters, leavers, and contract variations, ensuring accuracy across systems and records
- Acting as a first point of contact for HR queries via shared inboxes, responding promptly and escalating where appropriate
- Providing administrative support on low-level employee relations matters, including sickness absence and routine casework
- Prepare contractual documentation, including contract variation letters, and update employee records as required
- Maintaining accurate HR records and supporting reporting and compliance requirements
- Assisting with wider People initiatives and policy updates
- Offer guidance to HR Information System (HRIS) users on how to navigate the system, input data correctly, generate reports, and troubleshoot common issues.
- Contribute to the creation of user guides, documentation, and training materials to support effective use of HR/Payroll systems.
- Support with the administration of the HRIS, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Extract workforce data and reports from the HRIS System.
- Support the maintenance of the Single Central Record (SCR) and associated safeguarding records.
- Provide accurate and timely employee data and support monthly payroll processing
- Validate payroll information against contracts, authorised forms and supporting documentation
- Supporting payroll processes by ensuring accurate and timely submissions and processing of employee data and changes
General
- To undertake any other work appropriate to the level and general nature of the post’s duties.
- To undertake all duties with regard to the provisions of health and safety regulations and legislation, the school’s Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and statutory obligations in respect of safeguarding children.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
- CIPD Level 3 qualification and working towards Level 5
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years HR/Payroll experience
- Experience of integrated HR and payroll systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
