Truro and Penwith College is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety and Compliance Manager to support the delivery of a comprehensive health and safety service across the College.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture within a dynamic, multi-site educational environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Estates, you will:
- Hold overall responsibility as the College’s Competent Person.
- Provide expert health and safety advice and guidance to staff across the College
- Support managers in developing and maintaining risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Undertake inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring compliance with legislation
- Analyse data and contribute to continuous improvement of safety performance
- Promote and support health and safety training and awareness
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and best practice
- Be the Competent Person
- Support the development of systems in line with recognised frameworks such as ISO 45001
You will play a visible, hands-on role in ensuring the College provides a safe, compliant, and supportive environment for staff, students, and visitors.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable professional who has:
Essential
- NEBOSH Diploma or Level 5 qualification (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a health and safety role
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage workloads, prioritise effectively, and work independently
- Experience working across complex or multi-site environments
- Strong IT and organisational skills
Desirable
- IOSH membership (or working towards Chartered status)
- Experience within an education or public sector environment
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 or formal management systems
Experience delivering training or awareness programmes
