Rate of pay: £14.80 - £24.00 per hour (depending on experience)
James Langthorne designs, manufactures and installs completely bespoke cabinetry for private residential clients, interior designers and property developers across Yorkshire and the UK.
From kitchens and wardrobes to boot rooms, media walls and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, every project is unique, designed in collaboration with our clients and handcrafted to an exceptional standard.
After 16 years crafting bespoke cabinetry for other businesses, James launched the business in autumn 2025. Following a successful first year and continued growth, we're looking to expand our workshop team as we move into new premises in August.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing bespoke cabinetry business, working alongside James to help deliver beautifully finished bespoke cabinetry as we continue to invest in our workshop and expand our capacity.
We care about doing things properly, taking pride in our work and building lasting relationships with our clients. We're looking for someone who enjoys producing exceptional finishes, wants to be part of a small, supportive team and shares our passion for quality craftsmanship.

Our new workshop has been designed around quality craftsmanship, with ongoing investment in machinery, equipment and finishing processes as the business grows.
Long-term Opportunity
Join a business with ambitious plans, where there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and grow alongside the team.
What You'll Get From Us
- The opportunity to help shape a growing business from the ground up.
- A modern, supportive workshop environment focused on quality over quantity.
- Flexibility around working patterns where possible.
- The opportunity to work on genuinely bespoke projects rather than repetitive production work.
- Competitive pay, negotiable depending on experience.
- 29 days' holiday including bank holidays (employed roles).
- Employed or self-employed arrangements considered.
The Role
As a Cabinet Finisher / Sprayer, you'll be responsible for preparing and finishing bespoke cabinetry to the highest standards from our workshop at Full Sutton.
Working across a wide range of bespoke projects, you'll take ownership of the preparation, staining and spray finishing process, ensuring every piece leaves the workshop with a flawless finish that reflects the quality of our craftsmanship.
You'll work closely with James and the wider workshop team to ensure every project is finished to the highest standard before installation.
This is a workshop-based role focused on preparation, staining and spray finishing.
What You'll Be Doing
- Preparing bespoke cabinetry and furniture for finishing, including sanding, filling and meticulous surface preparation.
- Applying stains, primers and spray finishes to achieve a consistently high-quality finish across a wide range of bespoke projects.
- Working confidently with a variety of materials, paints and finishing products while maintaining excellent consistency and colour quality.
- Inspecting finished pieces, carrying out quality checks and rectifying any imperfections before items leave the workshop.
- Managing your own workload and maintaining a clean, organised and efficient finishing area.
- Collaborating closely with James and the wider workshop team to ensure projects progress smoothly through production.
- Supporting a workshop culture built around care, craftsmanship and attention to detail.
What We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from someone who has:
- Experience in spray finishing, furniture finishing, cabinet spraying or a similar finishing role.
- Excellent preparation skills and an understanding that achieving a flawless finish starts long before the paint is applied.
- Experience applying stains, primers, lacquers and a range of finishing products.
- A meticulous eye for detail and genuine pride in producing exceptional work.
- The ability to work independently while managing your own workload and maintaining consistently high standards.
- A practical, positive approach and the ability to work well as part of a small team.
- A genuine interest in bespoke cabinetry, furniture and craftsmanship.
Experience with hand-painted finishes would be an advantage but isn't essential. While support can be provided where required, someone who is confident carrying out both spray and hand-applied finishes would be highly valued.
A full UK driving licence would be helpful but isn't essential.
Working Hours
40-hour working week
Monday to Thursday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
Friday: 7:30am – 2:00pm (early finish)
Flexible or compressed working arrangements can be discussed for the right candidate.
