We are looking for an enthusiastic and commercially minded Trainee Car Buyer to join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already has experience within the motor trade and is looking to take the next step in their career by moving into vehicle buying.
You don't need previous buying experience. We are looking for someone who understands the motor trade, has a good knowledge of cars, and has the ambition to develop their skills in vehicle purchasing, valuation and negotiation.
Working alongside our experienced buying team, you will learn how to identify the right vehicles for our stock, assess their condition and market value, negotiate purchase prices and make commercially sound buying decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced buyers with sourcing and purchasing used vehicles.
- Learn to accurately assess vehicle condition, specification, mileage and history.
- Research market values and understand current used-car pricing.
- Assist with negotiating vehicle purchase prices.
- Monitor auction and trade platforms for suitable stock.
- Build relationships with dealerships, auctions and vehicle suppliers.
- Ensure vehicles purchased meet our quality and stock requirements.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle purchases and documentation.
- Work closely with the sales, preparation and management teams.
- Monitor market trends and customer demand.
- Progressively take responsibility for your own vehicle purchases as your knowledge develops.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience within the motor trade.
- Good general knowledge of vehicles and the used-car market.
- Genuine interest in cars and the automotive industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Commercial awareness and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment..
Desirable
Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Vehicle sales.
- Dealership sales or management.
- Vehicle preparation.
- Service or aftersales.
- Vehicle appraisal.
- Auction or trade experience.
- Dealership administration.
- Used-car retail.
Previous vehicle-buying experience is not essential, as full training will be provided.

The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who has already gained experience in the motor trade and now wants to develop their career in vehicle buying.
You may currently be working in sales, preparation, aftersales or another dealership role and feel you're ready for a new challenge.
You'll need to be confident, commercially minded, hardworking and genuinely interested in cars. Most importantly, you should have the ambition to learn, develop and eventually take responsibility for your own buying decisions.
