Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

You will support the provision of quality patient care within a new state of the art adult acute and children’s hospital facility. The Facilities Directorate deliver a variety of services (e.g. patient and retail catering, domestic cleaning, portering, transport) which support and contribute to the provision of quality patient care. You will support with the delivery of catering services to patients, and for functions within the hospital, regeneration of patients meals either centrally or at ward level, plating patient meals at the point of service as advised by nursing staff and cleaning and wash-up of all equipment, machinery, and crockery associated with catering services.

You will assist food production staff with the basic preparation of meals, undertake picking & packing of patient meal component and support the overall delivery of patient meals to ward level. You should comply with Food Hygiene Regulations with regard to food service. No qualifications or experience are required for this post as all training will be given on the job but you should be able to work under pressure and have good communication skills. Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
Permanent Contract
Part-time positions and shift patterns can be found below:
2x 17.17 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 1600-1930
5.56 hours per week, Saturday - Sunday, 1600-1900
22.2 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 1430-1930
6.55 hours per week, Saturday - Sunday, 1600-1930
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours

Key responsibilities:

Supporting the delivery of catering services to patients, and for functions within the hospital
Regeneration of patients meals either centrally or at ward level
Plating patient meals at the point of service as advised by nursing staff
Cleaning and wash-up of all equipment, machinery, and crockery associated with catering services
Assist food production staff with the basic preparation of meals
Undertake picking & packing of patient meal components
Support the overall delivery of patient meals to ward level
Comply with Food Hygiene Regulations with regard to food service
Comply with HACCP system in relation to equipment cleaning and departmental cleanliness
Maintain high personal hygiene standards
Comply with Health and Safety regulations and adhere to manual handling/risk assessment/fire safety training
Report faulty equipment

Training

Initial Departmental Training.
Completion of Departmental Lesson Plans held within the Training Manual
Ongoing training to meet changes in Health and Safety, Food Safety, Moving and Handling and
Infection Control Protocols
Basic Food Hygiene
COSHH
Knowledge of departmental quality systems.
Ability to perform all tasks and duties throughout the department. Staff will be trained to facilitate cross service working commensurate with job descriptions for Facilities Assistant (Porter & Catering Patient/Retail) if required at site level.

Experience

Working knowledge of Health and Safety and Infection Control.
Food Safety Certificate ( not essential as training will be given)
Working within a large organisation
