Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join an award-winning communications team. NHSGGC is the largest single health authority in the UK service more than 1.3million people and employing around 41,000 staff. As such you can expect to manage a wide range of complex matters, working closely with a wide variety of stakeholders to deliver communications activity supporting the organisation to improve population health and wellbeing while providing a safe, accessible, affordable, integrated, person centred and high quality health service.

Your key responsibilities will include the design, development and implementation of integrated communications strategies and campaigns to support key service areas and priorities.

You will have the opportunity to deliver a breadth of internal and external communications activities including traditional and social media marketing and advertising campaigns, development of web and other digital content alongside working closely with the media to secure proactive positive coverage for NHSGGC.

A key responsibility will include effective media relations and so a strong working relationship with the Scottish media and how to influence it is essential to the role.

You will be a creative, confident and motivated individual with a relevant degree in journalism, PR or media communications or relevant experience either in agency or in-house.

Essential to the post is strong experience in a media/communications/PR role. Strong communications and writing skills are also a must and you should be able work at pace and be able to prioritise effectively.

Knowledge of the NHS or the public sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

The post also involves out-of-hours media cover in a one-in-five rotational basis.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent, full-time post of 36 hours per week.

The role is based at JB Russell House.

The shift pattern is standard business hours Monday to Friday +on call one week in 5.
