Designer Rooms and Urban Kandi Ltd are one of Scotland's leading independent furniture retailers, operating across seven retail stores together with a growing online business, all supported from our Head Office and central warehouse in Dundonald.
As our business continues to grow, we are looking to strengthen our finance team by recruiting an experienced Finance & Bookkeeping Assistant.
This is not an entry level finance role. We are looking for someone with proven bookkeeping and finance experience who is already confident using Xero and enjoys working in a busy, fast paced environment where accuracy, efficiency and trust are fundamental.
Working closely with our experienced finance team, you will become an important part of the day to day running of the business, helping to ensure our financial information is processed accurately, efficiently and on time.
About the Role
This is a varied, hands on role within a busy finance department supporting a retail business operating across seven stores together with a growing online presence.
Our finance team processes a significant volume of transactions every day. Accuracy is essential, but so is efficiency. We're looking for someone who takes pride in producing high quality work, enjoys improving processes and can confidently manage their own workload.
This role would particularly suit someone who has previously worked within an owner managed or family business, where they've worked closely with business owners and understand the importance of trust, confidentiality and taking ownership. However, this is not essential, and we welcome applications from anyone with the right experience, attitude and work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- High volume processing of purchase invoices using Xero and Dext
- Managing accounts payable and account reconciliations
- Processing supplier payments
- Bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Maintaining accurate and up to date financial records
- Supporting month end procedures
- Assisting with payroll processing using Xero Payroll, including the ability to independently run payroll for over 60 employees when required
- Supporting the wider finance function with bookkeeping and administrative duties
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes to increase efficiency
Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven bookkeeping and finance experience (essential)
- Previous experience using Xero in a finance role (essential)
- Experience using Dext or similar document management software
- Strong IT and systems skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to process a high volume of transactions accurately and efficiently
- A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and use initiative
- A professional, trustworthy and organised approach
- Excellent communication skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider team

Hours
This is a full time position working 40 hours per week.
We recognise that flexibility is important and are happy to offer flexibility around start and finish times where possible, provided the needs of the business are met.
