Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

The Caretaker/Maintenance assistant is responsible for providing an effective maintenance and portering service, ensuring that the environment is kept clean and hazard free. They are responsible for general maintenance duties and minor new work. After initial induction and on the job training to allow them to carry out these duties, the post holder will work with little supervision although guidance and assistance is available from supervisor / line manager on a daily basis.

The post holder has a responsibility for building security and may be required to open and lock up own base premises or other premises within the South Sector as required during periods of leave. Liaison is required with internal departments, external contractors, General Practitioners and all users of the premises. No formal qualifications are required as on the job training and induction will be provided however, it is essential that you are competent in carrying out minor works, have good written and verbal communication skills, are able to work as part of a team, follow protocols and prioritise your workload and be flexible. Experience of minor maintenance, caretaking or portering is desirable, as are keyboard skills and data input experience.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

This is a permanent, part time post of 13.9 hours per week.

The role is based at Castlemilk Health Centre.

The shift pattern is Monday 4pm-6.30pm, Tuesday 4pm-6.30pm, Wednesday 4pm-6.30pm, Thursday 4.06pm-8pm (potential to change to 7pm finish) Friday 4pm-6.30pm.

Key responsibilities:

1. To ensure that the premises are kept secure and lockfast.

2. Inform the Police and CHP Administrator of any unauthorised personnel who are causing damage or creating a nuisance within the premises.

3. Report any loss or damage to the Administrator timeously

4. To ensure that the entrance grounds and building are maintained in a clean and tidy condition.

5. To carry out all minor works as required .i.e. changing lamps and fluorescent starters, clear blocked toilets or sinks, erect shelving, notice boards and other similar tasks, wall washing, minor plaster work and painting.

6. To report all works/maintenance outwith your remit to the appropriate body and ensure completion.

7. To check all goods/stores received and distribute same to various departments or central storage area.

8. To set up rooms for Clinics, meetings etc.

9. If required to sort and distribute incoming mail. Take outgoing mail to the Post Office.

10. Removal of Waste and Spillages in accordance with the NHS G&C Risk management Policy Guidelines.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

Competent in carrying out minor works safely.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to follow protocols for work areas and contribute to review of these protocols
Ability to prioritise workload and exercise initiative and make decisions when required.
Flexible

Desirable

Previous experience of caretaking /minor maintenance/portering.
Appropriate skilled or semi- skilled experience within the Building industry.
Keyboard skills
Experience of data input

New employees will undertake an induction/training programme. This will be a minimum of 4 weeks depending on the department and location.
