Consultant Ophthalmologist, University Hospital Hairmyres
The opportunity has arisen to recruit two ophthalmology consultants to NHS Lanarkshire, one with a specialist interest in glaucoma and one with a subspecialty interest in oculoplastics. The successful candidate will be part of the consultant team based at University Hospital Hairmyres, providing ophthalmic care to the whole of NHS Lanarkshire.
The post represents an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to have a significant influence in the redesign and ongoing development of either the glaucoma or oculoplastics services, dependent on their field of expertise.
For candidates with a subspecialty interest in glaucoma we have a highly motivated and skilled non-medical workforce working in the department and have strong links with community optometry with development of the Community Glaucoma Service.
For candidates with a subspecialty interest in oculoplastics, you would work alongside the existing oculoplastics consultant workforce as well as three highly trained oculoplastics ANPs, and resident doctors from the West of Scotland rotation
The successful candidate would work closely with the site management team to develop sustainable service delivery models for the future.
The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time, up to 2 EPAs may be available to undertake additional clinical activity.
Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements
