As our business continues to evolve, we are investing further in our technical capability and are seeking an experienced Workflow Systems Manager to become the technical lead for our Esko Workflow Platform and Studio systems.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a business-critical workflow environment supporting multiple international manufacturing locations.
Working closely with our Studio, Operations, IT and Customer Solutions teams, you will be responsible for the ongoing development, optimisation and support of Britannia's Esko Workflow Platform, including Automation Engine, Automation Engine Viewer and WebCenter.
This is not a traditional people management role.
Instead, you will become the technical leader for the Studio function, providing guidance, mentoring and direction whilst taking ownership of workflow automation, technical issues and continuous improvement.
You will work collaboratively with the Group Commercial & Operations Manager to shape the future direction of the department, recommending improvements, developing new capabilities and helping ensure the Studio continues to evolve alongside the needs of the wider business.
- Key Responsibilities
- Own, develop and maintain Britannia's Esko Workflow Platform, including Automation Engine, Automation Engine Viewer and WebCenter.
- Lead the technical direction of Studio workflow systems, automation and quality assurance processes.
- Identify, develop and implement workflow improvements and automation opportunities.
- Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve workflow, production and automation-related issues.
- Support retailer onboarding and new customer implementations.
- Develop a sound understanding of Britannia's variable data template environment, supporting template development where required and ensuring workflow solutions complement the template architecture.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Template Specialist, sharing knowledge across workflow automation, Esko technologies and template development, strengthening resilience and technical capability across the department.
- Mentor and provide day-to-day technical leadership to the Studio team, taking ownership of workflow priorities and technical issues whilst working alongside senior management.
- Produce and maintain workflow documentation, technical standards and operating procedures.
- Support software upgrades, testing and implementation projects.
- Work closely with internal software developers and business stakeholders to improve production systems and supporting business processes.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Britannia's international production locations where required.
- Continually review existing workflows and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, quality and business resilience.
- Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong working knowledge of Esko Automation Engine.
- Experience within a print, packaging, labels or pre-press production environment.
- Strong understanding of workflow automation and production systems.
- Good working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud within a production environment.
- Strong understanding of print production, artwork preparation and pre-press processes.
- Experience investigating and resolving workflow, production and automation issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to provide technical leadership, mentor colleagues and work collaboratively across multiple departments.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to make recommendations, drive continuous improvement and take ownership of technical decisions.
- Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with Esko WebCenter.
- Experience with Esko Automation Engine Viewer.
- Experience supporting variable data template environments.
- Experience developing or supporting template-driven production workflows.
- Experience with XMPie/uProduce.
- Experience within garment trims, labels, packaging or RFID production.
- SQL or database knowledge.
- Experience supporting international manufacturing operations.

This role is designed to strengthen the technical capability of the Studio.
Working closely with the Lead Template Specialist, you will develop an understanding of Britannia's template environment and improving departmental Esko understanding, promoting a collaborative approach and broadening capability across the department, ensuring both workflow automation and template development continue to evolve together.
You will report directly to the Group Commercial & Operations Manager and be trusted to lead the Studio's technical direction, providing recommendations, identifying opportunities for improvement and helping shape future investment in workflow technologies.
Pay: £36,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
