Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and versatile NMC Registered Nurse to join HS Health Group across our Community Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Service and a range of general clinical services, including Private GP support, the Hepatitis B Vaccination Service, B12 Injection Service, and Blood Test (Phlebotomy) Service. The post holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care across these clinics, supporting diagnostic and treatment procedures, patient assessment, vaccination and injection administration, and clinic flow, while working closely with clinicians, the Clinical Lead, and administrative staff. This is a varied role suited to a flexible, all-round nurse who enjoys working across multiple clinical services, and offers the opportunity to help shape delivery of several newly mobilised services from an early stage.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
ENT Service
- Provide direct nursing care and support to patients attending ENT clinics, including pre- and post-procedure care.
- Assist ENT clinicians during examinations and procedures, including microsuction, nasendoscopy, and other diagnostic or minor procedures, ensuring patient comfort, dignity and safety throughout.
- Undertake patient assessments, including history taking, observations and triage of ENT symptoms, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Support referral triage and pathway management, working within agreed protocols for GP all the referral routes.
Private GP Service
- Provide nursing support to Private GP clinics, including chaperoning, patient preparation, observations, and assistance with examinations.
- Undertake routine health checks and screening tasks as delegated by the GP, in line with agreed protocols.
- Support the private patient journey, ensuring a high standard of customer care alongside clinical safety.
Hepatitis B Vaccination Service
- Administer Hepatitis B vaccinations in accordance with the relevant Patient Group Direction (PGD), following full clinical assessment and consent.
- Correctly store, handle and record vaccine stock in line with cold chain and medicines management requirements.
- Recognise and manage adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis, in line with HS Health Group's clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate vaccination records and support reporting requirements for contracted vaccination services (e.g. staff vaccination contracts).
B12 Injection Service
- Administer B12 injections safely and competently, following appropriate assessment, consent and relevant protocols/PGDs.
- Advise patients on the purpose, benefits and any risks associated with B12 supplementation.
- Maintain accurate records of administration and monitor for adverse reactions.
Blood Test (Phlebotomy) Service
- Perform venepuncture for a range of patients, using correct technique, equipment and infection control procedures.
- Correctly label, handle and process blood samples in line with laboratory and information governance requirements.
- Manage patient anxiety around blood tests with a calm, reassuring approach, including for needle-phobic or vulnerable patients.
Cross-Service and General Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain and check clinical equipment and instruments across all services, ensuring correct decontamination, sterilisation and infection control procedures are followed at all times.
- Support the smooth running of clinics across services, including managing patient flow, clinic lists and appropriate use of clinical time.
- Maintain accurate, timely and legible clinical records in line with NMC standards and HS Health Group's information governance policies.
- Provide patient education and advice relevant to each service, supporting aftercare and self-management where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including the Clinical Lead, Clinical Service Manager, GPs, administrative staff, and referring practices, to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits, incident reporting, and contributing to service improvement initiatives across all services covered.
- Adhere to all relevant Patient Group Directions (PGDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical protocols relevant to each service.
- Support anaphylaxis and emergency preparedness in line with HS Health Group's clinical SOPs, including recognising and responding to adverse reactions, across all clinical settings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice across ENT, vaccination, injection and phlebotomy nursing, and attend relevant mandatory and role-specific training.
- Contribute to a positive, safe and professional clinic environment, upholding HS Health Group's values and CQC standards at all times.
- Work flexibly across services, according to clinic scheduling and service need.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, as reasonably required by the Clinical Lead or Service Manager.
Person Specification
Essential
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration, in good standing.
- Proven venepuncture (phlebotomy) skills, with confidence taking blood from a wide range of patients.
- Experience or confidence administering injections/vaccinations, and working within PGDs or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs).
- Sound clinical assessment, triage and observation skills, transferable across different clinic types.
- Competent in infection prevention and control, and decontamination of clinical instruments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to reassure and support patients across a range of procedures, including those who are needle-phobic or anxious.
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple clinical services and adapt quickly between clinic types within a working day.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good IT skills, including experience of electronic patient records and referral systems.
- Commitment to CQC standards, safeguarding, and patient-centred care.
- Flexibility to travel between HS Health Group sites as required by service need.
Desirable
- Post-registration experience or qualification in ENT nursing, otoscopy, or microsuction.
- Experience administering Hepatitis B or other travel/occupational health vaccinations.
- Experience supporting Private GP or independent sector clinics.
- Experience working in a community or independent healthcare provider setting.
- Experience supporting NHS-commissioned services and working to service specifications.
- Immunisation/vaccination trained (e.g. Hepatitis B PGD), or willingness to train.
- Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement activities.
