The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a MEng business placement student to join the small,
talented team at AER. The business placement student will support the Design Office at
AER in the development, analysis, and delivery of high-performance engineering
components and systems. The placement student will gain firsthand experience in
motorsport and advanced engine design, contributing to real engineering projects while
developing technical and professional skills aligned with an MEng programme.
This is a firsthand position that will suit someone with strong desire to learn, attention to
detail, a proactive mindset, and a true interest in motorsport engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support design engineers in the creation and modification of 3D CAD models and
2D technical drawings.
- Assist with the design and development of engine components and sub-systems.
- Participate in engineering change processes, including documentation and revision
control.
- Support analysis activities (e.g. FEA, tolerance studies, packaging reviews) under
supervision.
- Contribute to design reviews and project meetings, taking notes and tracking
actions.
- Liaise with manufacturing, assembly, and test departments to support design
validation.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during build and testing phases.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation in line with company
procedures.
- Undertake specific project work aligned with business needs and academic
requirements.
Skills Required
Essential:
- Studying towards an MEng or BEng in Mechanical, Automotive, Motorsport, or
related engineering discipline
- Strong interest in engine design, motorsport, or advanced engineering systems
- Basic knowledge of CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, NX or similar)
- Good understanding of core engineering principles
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and take responsibility for tasks.
Desirable:
- Previous exposure to motorsport or automotive engineering
- Experience with FEA or engineering simulation tools
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
- Previous placement or internship experience

Hours of work & Benefits
Standard full-time working week, 40 hours a week, 8 hours a day. When based at AER's
Essex facility, standard office hours are flexible between 7.30am to 5.15pm. To meet the
needs of the role and fast paced nature of the business, the successful candidate will
require a flexible approach to working hours.
Salary – competitive depending on experience.
