Planning and Transport Coordinator
BDC Aluminium are pleased to be recruiting for a confident and organised Planning and Transport Coordinator, who will play a crucial part in our operations.
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting factory operations and transport activities. It involves planning factory loading, coordinating delivery schedules, and managing daily transport operations to ensure products are manufactured, packed, and delivered safely, on time, and in line with customer commitments.
The Planning and Transport Coordinator works closely with production, transport, and sales teams to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and consistently high standards of communication, quality, and delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
Factory Planning
- Plan factory loading based on material availability and factory capacity.
- Coordinate production schedules to support efficient workflow and output.
- Communicate directly with customers to agree manufacturing and delivery dates.
- Ensure customers are notified prior to planned delivery (product lead-time dependant), by both phone and email.
- Keep customers informed of any changes or delays to planned delivery dates.
- Support internal teams by identifying issues early and helping to resolve them promptly.
Transport and Distribution
- Oversee daily transport operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant deliveries.
- Promote a “right first time, every time” approach across all delivery activity.
- Ensure company procedures are followed, including SOPs, Risk Assessments, COSHH, and 5S standards, and actively contribute to their ongoing review, improvement, and implementation.
- Ensure full-fleet daily vehicle checks are completed before use, with any defects reported and dealt with correctly.
- Ensure dispatch sheets are fully completed for every delivery, including accurate product weights checked against vehicle capacity before vehicles leave site.
- Make effective use of internal factory staff, group transport resources, or approved courier services where required to support delivery needs, capacity limits, or urgent customer requirements.
- Ensure all dispatched products are always packaged correctly, using suitable protective materials to prevent damage during handling and transport.
- Ensure no product is dispatched without verification that the factory inspection and quality check process has been fully completed and signed off. Ensure also that picture records are taken of each delivery
- Keep customer details, orders, and delivery information accurate and up to date.
- Act as the main point of contact for drivers, providing daily support and resolving queries.
- Record delivery information and manage daily driver schedules using tracking interface.
- Coordinate vehicle servicing, inspections, MOTs, and maintenance requirements.
- Manage driver holidays, sickness, and availability planning.
- Work closely with the sales office to plan efficient delivery routes and manage non-standard delivery requests.
Aftersales Coordination
- Log and track aftersales updates, ensuring information is recorded accurately.
- Despatch aftersales products in a timely manner.
What You Bring
Essential:
- Strong organisation and planning skills.
- Clear and confident communication, both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable using computers, spreadsheets, and planning systems.
Desirable:
- Experience in production planning, transport coordination, or logistics.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or operational environment.
- Good problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
- Ability to work effectively with teams across the business.
Salary, Benefits, and Hours
- Hourly pay of £17.51 per hour
- Full time position, Monday to Friday
