Job Description – Executive / Head Chef (Part-Time)
Location: Beautiful 17th-century country pub, Hertfordshire
Hours: Approximately 2 days per week (flexible by agreement)
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced and passionate Executive / Head Chef to provide culinary leadership for our well-established kitchen.
Rather than running day-to-day service every week, your focus will be on developing our menus, maintaining high food standards, mentoring our existing chefs and helping drive the business forward. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking for a flexible leadership role with real creative input.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refresh seasonal food menus.
- Create weekly and daily specials.
- Lead, motivate and support the kitchen team.
- Ensure consistency, quality and presentation across all dishes.
- Maintain excellent food safety and hygiene standards.
- Monitor food costs, margins and stock efficiency.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems and kitchen operations.
- Support recruitment, training and development where required.
- Work closely with the owners and front-of-house management to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Executive Chef.
- Strong knowledge of fresh, seasonal British cuisine.
- Experience managing GP and food cost controls.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring skills.
- Calm, organised and positive under pressure.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and quality food.
