HCPC registered Physiotherapist (or awaiting registration)
Strong interest in paediatrics and/or MSK physiotherapy

ROLE SUMMARY
The post holder will have responsibility for assessing and treating their own caseload of patients and maintaining associated record. As an autonomous practitioner they will be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, delegating as appropriate. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, caseload discussion and formal clinical supervision. Access to advice and support from a senior therapist is available if required, clinical work is routinely evaluated.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The post holder will liaise and be required to develop good working relationships to provide and share information with:
- Patients and their families/carer
- Physiotherapy staff
- OT staff
- Lighthouse MDT
- Medical staff
- Social Workers
- Care staff
- Other relevant professionals within the speciality
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The post holder will be required to have a Bachelorâs degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy, and will be required to have completed placements in all core clinical areas during training. Additionally the post holder will need to be able to demonstrate basic computer literacy. The post holder will be required to undertake in-house in-service training. The post holder will be a current UK driving licence holder, and will be required to use their own vehicle during their work commitments for which expenses will be reimbursed in line with trust policy.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Comply with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
- Comply with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of proficiency for Physiotherapists, and Standards of conduct , performance and ethics
- Work within trust clinical guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.
PATIENT CONTACT /CLINICAL DUTIES
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
- Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercise classes, electrotherapy techniques and other alternative options.
- Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans.
- Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
- Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required.
- To manage clinical risk within own patient case load.
- Work within trust clinical guidelines and CSP guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.
- When working in the community and domiciliary settings, work under direct supervision of a senior physiotherapist.
- To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards of practice.
- To be aware of the requirement of the health and safety act as it relates to the department and safety of the patients and staff.
- To report all accidents/incidents promptly to a Senior Member of staff, using the appropriate incident form.
- To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia or limited mobility.
STAFF MANAGEMENT:
- Be responsible for the supervision, delegation and co-ordination of assistants on a daily basis.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:
- To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities, and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
- Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programmes to meet set knowledge and competencies.
- Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at, and participation in, in-service training programmes, tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review.
- Maintain respiratory competencies in line with CSP guidelines.
- Ensure that your own practice meets the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice.
- To comply with the Trust Manual Handling Policy and local therapeutic handling guidance at all times.
- To attend mandatory trust and organisational courses
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES:
- To be aware of departmental/hospital policies and procedures.
- To maintain statistics.
RESEARCH / AUDIT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To undertake as directed the collection of data for use in service audit and research projects.
