Full job description

Overview

This is a varied and rewarding role operating at the heart of our business. As HR Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of our HR function, working closely with the Director responsible for HR and our external HR Consultant.

You’ll provide practical HR advice and support across the employee lifecycle, helping managers, team leaders and employees navigate people-related matters effectively and ensuring our HR policies, processes and practices are consistently applied. The role will also have responsibility for recruitment, our engineering apprenticeship programme and wider early careers activity, as well as supporting learning and development across the business.

Through this broad remit, you’ll play an important role in helping Perega attract, develop and retain great people, while ensuring we continue to provide a positive, inclusive and engaging employee experience as the business grows.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day management and delivery of Perega’s HR function, ensuring HR processes and activities are effective, consistent and aligned with the needs of the business.
Providing practical HR advice and guidance to managers and employees across the employee lifecycle, escalating more complex or specialist matters to the Director responsible for HR or external HR consultant where appropriate.
Advising and supporting managers on employee relations matters, including absence, performance, conduct, disciplinary and grievance processes.
Managing recruitment activity across the business, working with managers and recruitment partners to develop effective recruitment strategies, coordinate campaigns, manage agencies and support the selection and appointment of new employees.
Onboarding and induction processes, ensuring new employees have a positive and consistent experience.
Managing and developing Perega’s engineering apprenticeship programme, working with apprentices, managers, training providers, universities, schools and other early careers partners.
Supporting the development of wider early careers initiatives, helping to build and maintain Perega’s future talent pipeline.
Coordinating and monitoring learning and development activity across the business, working with managers to identify development needs and ensure appropriate training is delivered and recorded.
Maintaining and developing HR policies, procedures and documentation in conjunction with the Director responsible for HR and external HR consultant.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems, ensuring information is managed appropriately and confidentially.
Producing and maintaining HR reports and people data, providing insight to support management decision-making and identify trends or areas requiring attention.
Supporting the Director responsible for HR with wider people initiatives, including employee engagement, workforce planning, organisational development and the ongoing development of Perega’s people strategy.
Ensuring HR processes and practices remain compliant with relevant employment legislation and good practice, working with the external HR consultant where specialist advice is required.
Building strong and effective relationships with employees, managers, recruitment partners, universities, training providers, feeder schools and other external stakeholders.
Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes and the employee experience, taking a proactive approach to developing the way Perega manages and supports its people.

Key Skills

Essential

Proven experience in a generalist HR role, with the ability to operate confidently and independently across a broad range of HR activities. This role would suit an experienced HR professional looking to take the next step into an HR Manager position.
Good working knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
Experience providing practical HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
Experience managing employee relations matters, including absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance processes.
Proven experience managing recruitment processes, from identifying requirements through to appointment and onboarding.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work to deadlines and maintain accurate records.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the business.
Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams and experience of using HR systems.
A pragmatic and people-focused approach, with the ability to build trusted relationships and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Preferable

CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards) or equivalent relevant HR experience.
Experience of managing or coordinating apprenticeship schemes and wider early careers programmes.
Experience of learning and development coordination and training management.
Experience working in a professional services, engineering, construction or similar environment.
Experience of supporting employee engagement, organisational development or wider people initiative.

Salary

£43,000 - £45,000 FTE
