Full job description

Job Summary

We are recruiting an experienced Registered General Nurse (RGN) to support the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department within an NHS Trust.

The role involves delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to adults and children presenting with a wide range of acute illnesses, injuries and medical emergencies. The successful candidate will be confident working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, undertaking rapid patient assessments, prioritising care, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary emergency care team.

This is a locum position offering ad hoc shifts, with opportunities for forward planning and regular bookings.

Key Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients presenting to the A&E department.
Undertake rapid patient assessment and assist with triage in accordance with departmental protocols.
Monitor, recognise and respond promptly to deteriorating patients.
Safely administer medications, intravenous therapies and blood products in line with NHS policies.
Assist with emergency procedures, resuscitation and trauma care where required.
Perform clinical interventions including cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, wound care and catheterisation as appropriate.
Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive patient records using electronic documentation systems.
Work collaboratively with doctors, advanced practitioners, ambulance crews and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Adhere to infection prevention, safeguarding, clinical governance and NHS policies at all times.
Support patient flow and contribute to the safe transfer, admission or discharge of patients.

Essential Requirements

NMC Registered Nurse (RGN) with a valid PIN.
Proven experience working within an NHS Accident & Emergency (A&E) or Emergency Department.
Competent in the assessment and management of acutely unwell patients.
Experience administering intravenous medications and emergency treatments.
Excellent clinical assessment, communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise competing clinical demands.
Enhanced DBS.
Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

Previous NHS Emergency Department experience.
Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
Experience in trauma, resuscitation or urgent care settings.
Triage experience or recognised triage training.
Experience acting as Nurse in Charge or coordinating shifts.
