Family Lifestyle Assistant (Childcare & Household Management)
Private Family Support Childcare Household Management
London & Kent | Part-time & Full-time Opportunities
£18.00–£30.00 per hour | Full-time salaries negotiable depending on experience
Exceptional candidates supporting some private and London-based families may achieve remuneration packages in excess of £60,000 per annum.
About Root & Nest
Root & Nest provides thoughtful, practical support to busy professional and high-net-worth families across London and Kent.
We believe exceptional family support is about much more than childcare or housekeeping. It's about helping families create calmer homes, better routines and more time together.
Our Family Lifestyle Assistants become trusted members of the household, combining childcare, household management and practical lifestyle support in one rewarding and varied role.
Every family is different, so every placement is carefully matched to ensure the best fit for both our clients and our team.
The Role
As a Family Lifestyle Assistant (Childcare & Household Management), you'll provide practical day-to-day support tailored to each family's needs.
No two days are the same.
One morning you may be preparing children for school, organising the family home and preparing a nutritious evening meal.
Another day you could be coordinating household services, helping prepare for a family holiday, organising children's bedrooms, or creating an engaging outdoor activity in the garden.
This is a proactive role for someone who enjoys helping life run smoothly and naturally notices what needs doing before being asked.
Your Responsibilities
Depending on the family, your responsibilities may include:
Childcare & Family Support
- Providing warm, attentive and age-appropriate care
- School and nursery runs
- Planning engaging activities and outings
- Supporting homework and learning
- Preparing nutritious meals and snacks
- Supporting children's appointments and extracurricular activities
- Helping establish positive daily routines
- Communicating professionally with parents
Some families may also request support while travelling within the UK or overseas for holidays, business trips or extended stays. Where appropriate, you may be invited to accompany the family, with all travel arrangements, accommodation, expenses and remuneration agreed in advance.
Household Management
- Laundry, ironing and wardrobe organisation
- Meal preparation
- Kitchen and household resets
- Shopping and errands
- Organising children's bedrooms and family spaces
- Keeping household essentials stocked
- Liaising with cleaners, gardeners and other household professionals
- Helping create practical systems that keep family life organised
We're looking for someone who is naturally proactive—someone who notices that the washing needs folding, the school bags need preparing or the fridge needs restocking and simply gets on with it.
Outdoor Learning & Kitchen Gardens
A unique part of the Root & Nest approach is encouraging children to spend meaningful time outdoors.
Where families have gardens or growing spaces, you may help children:
- Plant seeds and grow vegetables, herbs and flowers
- Harvest fruit and vegetables
- Bake or cook using home-grown produce
- Learn about nature and the changing seasons
- Enjoy creative outdoor activities
No gardening experience is required—we'll provide training.
Root & Nest also offers dedicated Kitchen Garden & Outdoor Learning sessions delivered by team members with a passion for gardening and nature-based learning. Lifestyle Assistants with an interest in these areas may have opportunities to become involved in these specialist experiences.
