Department: Business and Innovation Team
Location: Birmingham
Duration: Flexible and Full time
Type: Full-time Undergraduate Placement / Internship
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and tech-savvy undergraduate student or graduate to join our Business and Innovation Team as an AI-Driven Innovation paid Intern. This placement offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare, business strategy, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence.
You will support the identification of new business opportunities in the medical consultancy space and contribute to the development and implementation of business plans within our internal incubator programme. A core part of the role involves leveraging generative AI tools — particularly Claude (Anthropic) alongside other AI platforms — to analyse market trends, generate insights, and accelerate innovation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Use Claude AI and other large language models to research and identify emerging opportunities in healthcare, digital health, medical technology, and consultancy services.
- Analyse market data, competitor landscapes, regulatory changes, and clinical trends to support opportunity evaluation.
- Assist in developing and refining business plans, pitch decks, financial models, and go-to-market strategies for incubator projects.
- Collaborate with senior team members to prototype and test new service offerings or internal process improvements using AI tools.
- Conduct AI-assisted literature reviews, data synthesis, and scenario modelling relevant to the medical sector.
- Support the end-to-end incubation process: from idea generation and validation through to early implementation and pilot planning.
- Document findings, prepare reports, and present insights to the innovation team.
- Help maintain an internal knowledge base of AI prompts, outputs, and best practices for business innovation.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Management, Entrepreneurship, Biomedical Sciences, Healthcare Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field or have an EXTRAORDINARY INTEREST IN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & STRATEGY
- Strong interest in artificial intelligence, particularly practical applications of tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or similar LLMs.
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to translate complex technical or clinical concepts into clear business insights.
- Self-starter with a proactive attitude and comfort working in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Basic familiarity with business strategy concepts (e.g., SWOT, market analysis, business modelling) is desirable.
- Previous experience with AI tools is a strong advantage but not essential — enthusiasm to learn and experiment is key.
What You Will Gain
- Hands-on experience applying generative AI to real-world business and healthcare innovation challenges.
- Exposure to the full innovation lifecycle within a medical consultancy and incubator setting.
- Mentorship from experienced professionals in business development, healthcare strategy, and digital innovation.
- Opportunity to contribute to live projects that may lead to new service lines or ventures.
- Development of skills in strategic thinking, AI literacy, project management, and professional presentation.
- A valuable addition to your CV and strong references for future career opportunities in healthtech or consulting.
