Full job description

Job Purpose

Piglets Pantry is an established production bakery in the heart of West Sussex supplying a wide range of high-quality sweet and savoury bakery products to customers across the UK.

We are looking for an experienced Patisserie Chef with a passion for the art of baking and patisserie to join our pastry team.

Our team is passionate about producing exceptional products. We are unique in the way we produce products in volume with hand finishing and therefore we are looking for the right person that can work with our management team. Bring your personality, experience and passion for delighting our customers, and we'll provide the support and tools you need to deliver.

Duties:

Prepare a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods according to recipes and standards
Measure and mix ingredients, roll dough, shape pastries, and decorate baked goods
Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, and pastry tools
Ensure food safety and sanitation guidelines are followed during food preparation and storage
Collaborate with other kitchen staff to coordinate pastry production with overall menu offerings
Monitor inventory levels of pastry ingredients and notify supervisor of any shortages or discrepancies
Maintain high standards of quality, consistency and presentation across all products.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Previous experience working as a Patisserie or Pastry Chef.
Cooking skills: Ability to cook a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods.
Food safety: Knowledge of food safety regulations and ability to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
Food preparation: Proficiency in measuring ingredients, mixing dough, shaping pastries, and decorating baked goods.
Baking skills: Expertise in baking techniques including temperature control, timing, and texture.
Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently produce high-quality pastries
Highly competent in finishing skills including piping and glazing.
Culinary knowledge: Understanding of culinary techniques and principles related to pastry production.
Food production: Ability to produce pastries in large quantities while maintaining quality standards.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively

Desirable Skills:

Passionate about patisserie with an infectious enthusiasm to deliver the best products to our customers.
HACCP trained and ideally Food Hygiene Level 3 (we can provide training on this)
Specialist skill set areas and knowledge of industry trends – chocolate, sugar work, glazing techniques.
Familiar with producing beautiful products, in volume within time constraints.
Ability to organise and prioritise production to meet daily deadlines.
Comfortable with different cutting-edge machinery, including laminators, depositors, sonic cutting machines, and an inquisitive mind to using new machinery to develop this section.
Trailblazer – dynamic, excited by new ideas and willing to teach those to others.
