About Cela Remit
Cela Remit Limited (Company No. 11484124) is a UK fintech company authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority as a Payment Services provider (FRN: 837505) and registered with HMRC as a Money Service Business. From our head office in Harlow, Essex, we operate a secure international money transfer platform serving customers across the UK and beyond, with a particular focus on fast, safe and affordable remittances to Africa. Our mobile-first platform offers international transfers, multi-currency payments, digital wallets, virtual cards and financial management tools.
As we scale our platform and customer base, we are investing in our in-house engineering capability to build secure, resilient and innovative payment technology.
The role
We are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, secure and maintain the cloud infrastructure that underpins our international payments platform. You will own the reliability, scalability and security of our production environments, implement infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD automation, and ensure our systems meet the exacting availability and compliance standards expected of a regulated financial services business.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deploy and manage secure, highly available cloud infrastructure (compute, networking, storage, databases) for our payment and remittance services.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation) so environments are reproducible, auditable and version-controlled.
- Build, operate and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable safe, frequent and automated software releases.
- Implement monitoring, logging and alerting; define and track SLOs; and lead incident response, root-cause analysis and capacity planning.
- Harden infrastructure security: identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, vulnerability management, patching and backup/disaster recovery.
- Support compliance with financial services obligations, including UK GDPR, PCI DSS principles and FCA operational resilience expectations.
- Manage cloud cost optimisation and vendor/tooling selection.
- Collaborate with software engineers to containerise workloads, troubleshoot environments and embed DevOps practices across the team; document architecture, runbooks and procedures.
Essential requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent RQF Level 6) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline, OR demonstrable equivalent professional experience in cloud/infrastructure engineering.
- Proven commercial experience designing, deploying and operating production infrastructure on a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Strong knowledge of Linux administration, networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, VPNs, load balancing) and scripting (e.g. Bash, Python).
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker; Kubernetes or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices, including IAM, secrets management and encryption.
- Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to reliability, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Right to work in the UK, or eligibility for sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker route.
Desirable
- Experience in fintech, payments or another regulated, high-availability environment.
- Cloud or DevOps certifications (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect/DevOps Engineer, Azure Administrator, CKA).
- Experience with observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
- Familiarity with PCI DSS, ISO 27001 or FCA operational resilience requirements.
What we offer
- Competitive salary of £36,610 – £52,300 per year, depending on skills and experience.
- Hybrid working between our Harlow office and home.
- 25 days' annual leave plus UK bank holidays.
- Workplace pension scheme.
- Genuine opportunity to shape the cloud platform of a growing, FCA-authorised fintech.
- Training, certification and professional development support.
