B. W. May & Son Ltd is looking for an experienced Carpenter Foreman to join our team.
We are an established building contractor with around 50 directly employed tradespeople. We carry out a wide range of construction, refurbishment and heritage projects across Kent and the South East.
Due to our current workload, with confirmed projects continuing into the new year, we are looking for a skilled carpenter who can also manage and supervise works on site.
The Role
You will work as both a hands-on carpenter and site foreman, depending on the size and needs of each project.
Your duties will include:
- Carrying out first and second fix carpentry
- Timber repairs and traditional carpentry work
- Supervising trades and subcontractors
- Managing day-to-day site activities
- Planning labour, materials and deliveries
- Reading drawings and specifications
- Maintaining site quality and workmanship
- Completing site records and progress updates
- Liaising with Contracts Managers, clients and other site representatives
- Maintaining health and safety standards on site
The Right Candidate
You should have:
- Strong carpentry experience
- Previous supervisory or foreman experience
- Good knowledge of building and refurbishment works
- The ability to organise labour and materials
- A professional and reliable approach
- Good communication skills
- A full UK driving licence
- Your own basic hand tools
Experience working on listed buildings, heritage properties and churches projects would be an advantage.
SMSTS, SSSTS, First Aid or other site management qualifications would also be beneficial, although training may be provided for the right person.
