Automotive Visualisation and Graphic Designer
16 month contract. Onsite – 4 days per week, 1 day WFH
We have an exciting opportunity to join our client’s expanding team in Essex, as an Automotive Visualisation and Graphic Designer
Position Description:
This highly specialized role operates at the intersection of brand identity, high-performance aesthetics, and cutting-edge digital visualization. In this position, the designer will develop compelling graphic design languages, translate 2D concepts into complex decals and vehicle liveries, and masterfully visualize these themes across intricate 3D automotive surfaces.
Key Responsibilities:
- 2D Graphic Design Excellence — Drive the creation and development of high-impact graphic design concepts based on design briefs. Visualize cohesive 2D graphic themes, typography, badging, and visual elements tailored specifically for automotive products and components.
- 3D Graphic Design Execution — Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of complex 3D vehicle surfaces. Masterfully translate, map, and adapt 2D graphic layouts onto physical and digital 3D vehicle envelopes to ensure distortion-free, perfectly aligned replication.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration — Collaborate seamlessly with Exterior, Interior, and Component Designers, as well as Clay/Digital Modelers, to harmonize graphic design applications with the vehicle’s overall surface language and design intent.
- Visualization & VR — Prepare highly detailed digital models for high-end rendering and real-time Virtual Reality (VR) reviews to facilitate design evaluations, immersive presentations, and senior leadership sign-offs.
- Workflow Innovation — Actively explore, pilot, and integrate emerging design technologies—including AI-assisted creation tools, generative design, and parametric workflows—to accelerate and elevate the creative process.
- Prototyping & Validation — Prepare and scale 2D vector plots for physical decal and livery prototyping. Handle the hands-on application and alignment of graphics onto physical properties, clay models, or prototype vehicles for real-world evaluation and aesthetic review.
- Compliance Maintenance — Adherence to established security, confidentiality, data management, and design sign-off protocols.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- 2D Design Mastery — Expert-level command of Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator and Photoshop)
- 3D Visualization — High proficiency in industry-standard visualization and rendering software, specifically Autodesk VRED and/or Unreal Engine.
- Preferred Tools — Experience with polygonal modeling/mapping tools (Blender or Autodesk Maya) and familiarity with cutting-edge AI-assisted design applications (e.g., Vizcom)
- Soft Skills — Clear communication, strong organization, and the ability to thrive in a fast paced, exploratory environment.
- Experience — 3-5 years of professional graphic design experience, with focus on automotive sector. A proven track record showcasing successful decal, stripe, badge, or livery design programs.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Graphic Design Mastery — Possess a deep, intuitive understanding of diverse vehicle typologies, proportions, and surface languages. Display an uncompromising eye for detail, balance, and technical precision when executing graphic elements on complex 3D volumes.
- Technical Problem Solving —A proven ability to resolve spatial and technical challenges during the design phase, iteratively refining creative graphics into viable, beautifully integrated production- or show-ready applications.
- Process Fluency — Familiarity with professional product development workflows (GPDS or similar).
- Aesthetic Agility — Ability to effortlessly pivot between distinct brand aesthetics—ranging from heritage-inspired motorsport liveries and performance decals, minimalist, tech-focused to lifestyle-trend graphics.
- Experience — 3-5 years of professional graphic design experience, with focus on automotive sector. A proven track record showcasing successful decal, stripe, badge, or livery design programs.
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic/Automotive/Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Digital Modelling, or equivalent practical experience.
Hours, Location & Additional Information:
- £30.18 per hour, increasing to £39.55 after initial 12 week period
- 16 month contract
- 37.5 hours per week
- Onsite – 4 days per week, 1 day WFH
- Position confirmed inside IR35
