Full job description

1.0 Job Purpose

The Charity Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a charity retail store. This includes managing staff and volunteers, driving sales, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining high standards of visual merchandising, and supporting the charity’s mission by maximising income from donated goods.

2.0 Key Tasks

Manage all aspects of the day-to-day running of the charity shop, ensuring it operates efficiently and profitably.
Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate volunteers and staff to create a positive, inclusive work environment.
Achieve or exceed sales targets and KPI objectives set by senior management.
Process and price donated stock in line with brand and quality guidelines.
Ensure effective stock rotation and visually appealing merchandising to drive sales.
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors and customers to encourage repeat business and ongoing donations.
Promote the charity’s work and values to the public and local community.
Maintain accurate records of sales, donations, petty cash, and volunteer hours.
Ensure the shop is clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety, safeguarding, and retail regulations.
Coordinate with the van driver and warehouse teams for timely collections and deliveries.
Report regularly to the Area Manager on shop performance and operational issues
To support and be involved in fundraising activities in collaboration with the fundraising team as appropriate.

3.0 Person Specification

Previous retail management or supervisory experience (charity retail experience is a plus).
Full Clean Driving Licence
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and manage a volunteer team.
Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of retail sales and customer service.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
Passionate about the mission of the charity and committed to upholding its values.
Basic IT skills (email, sales systems, stock tracking).

4.0 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To support and be involved in fundraising activities in collaboration with the fundraising team as appropriate.
To ensure, in all circumstances, that you represent the Hospice in a positive light.

Pay: £13.01 per hour
