Healthcare Assistant (Dermatology Support)
Location: Cheltenham – on site
Hours: Part-time, approximately 25 hours per week over three days
Working days: Tuesday and Wednesday, plus either Monday or Friday
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Start date: As soon as possible
Reporting to: Lead Dermatology Nurse, working closely with the Consultant Dermatologist
About the role
ProDerm UK is a growing, consultant-led dermatology clinic in Cheltenham. We are looking for an experienced, highly organised Healthcare Assistant to support our Consultant Dermatologist and Lead Dermatology Nurse in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent communication, close attention to detail and the ability to understand and respond accurately to clinical instructions during consultations and procedures.
The successful candidate must be able to anticipate clinical requirements, remain calm and organised under pressure, and consistently maintain high standards of patient safety and care.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Consultant Dermatologist and Lead Dermatology Nurse during clinics, consultations and minor surgical procedures
- Prepare treatment and procedure rooms, ensuring that the correct equipment and consumables are available
- Maintain clean, safe, organised and appropriately stocked clinical areas
- Assist with preparing patient notes, labelling specimens and completing related clinical administration
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients before and after procedures
- Provide wound-care and aftercare information within the boundaries of training and competence
- Undertake wound checks and dressing changes following minor dermatological procedures
- Make follow-up care calls and arrange follow-up appointments where required
- Chaperone patients when needed
- Handle patient records, clinical photographs, specimens and labels accurately and securely
- Maintain patient dignity, safety, confidentiality and privacy at all times
- Follow infection-control, clinical-governance, safeguarding and data-protection policies
Following appropriate training and competency assessment, the role may also include undertaking or supporting:
- Patch testing
- Phototherapy
- Mole-mapping procedures
- Digital clinical photography
- Wound checks and dressing changes

- Confident working at pace while maintaining accuracy and patient safety

- Meticulous when handling patient records, photographs, specimens and labels
- Uses initiative appropriately and asks for clarification rather than making assumptions
- Able to provide clear and accurate information within the boundaries of training and competence
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team
- Comfortable using clinical and administrative IT systems
Desirable experience
- Previous experience in dermatology, an outpatient department or a private clinical setting
- Experience assisting with skin surgery or minor procedures
- Familiarity with patch-testing protocols
- Experience using phototherapy equipment and following relevant safety procedures
- Familiarity with mole-mapping tools, digital photography or clinical systems
- Previous wound-care or dressing experience
- A relevant healthcare qualification, such as the Care Certificate or an NVQ in Health and Social Care

- Able to work on site at ProDerm UK in Cheltenham
- Available to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays, plus either Monday or Friday
- Some flexibility according to clinic requirements
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo one
