About the role:
We're offering an exciting opportunity to step into a role that plays a pivotal part in our operational success. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Asset Engineer (Support) [Signalling] to join our Maintenance Team.
As a Senior Asset Engineer (R&E) [Signalling] you'll Lead the determination and development of allocated [Signalling] engineering requirements to support renewal, refurbishment and enhancement investment interventions. Lead the production of project requirement specifications and acceptance criteria for [Signalling] engineering works to achieve the required scope and quality in accordance with company asset policies.
What You'll Do:
In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of the route's signalling renewals, refurbishment and enhancement workbank, contributing to strategy, prioritisation and long-term asset planning. You will define requirements, oversee specification and acceptance of works, and provide expert engineering input to ensure projects are delivered in line with asset policies, standards and performance objectives.
Working closely with delivery teams, you will manage programme integration, monitor progress through to completion, and ensure changes are controlled and aligned to asset management plans. You will also support engineering assurance, verification and incident investigations, maintain robust asset data and configuration records, contribute to national standards development, and undertake condition assessments to drive informed investment decisions and continuous improvement.
What You'll Need:
- Incorporated Engineer
- Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
- Membership of relevant professional institution
- Substantial [Signalling] engineering experience, particularly related to renewals and enhancements
- Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
- An understanding of policy and technical, safety and performance standards relating to signal engineering
- Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain
- An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
- Knowledge of investment processes and procedures, including relevant computer systems
- Experience in the integration of complex engineering systems
- Knowledge of project management techniques

We're looking for a technically strong and driven Signalling engineer who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You will be an Incorporated Engineer and have experience in signalling renewals and enhancements, and a proven ability to define engineering requirements, produce specifications and lead assurance activities in line with company standards and policies.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of signalling systems, safety management and asset performance, alongside experience of working with investment processes and complex engineering integrations. You'll be confident leading across the full project lifecycle-collaborating with delivery teams, managing scope and change, and ensuring high-quality outputs aligned to asset management plans. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement are essential. Above all, you will be a credible technical leader who can influence stakeholders, drive performance, and enhance the safety, reliability and efficiency of the signalling asset.
