Sitting within the IT team, this role is responsible for IT security for the Windracers Group. The key functions of this role:
- Defence Compliance: Manage UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) security frameworks, Defence Cyber Protection Partnership (DCPP) requirements.
- Cloud Security Strategy: Secure native cloud environments (AWS, Azure) without legacy on-premise infrastructure.
- Risk Management: Lead risk assessments, accreditation processes, and security case preparation for defence contracts.
- Stakeholder Management: Liaise directly with MOD accreditors, internal product teams, and executive leadership.
This role is new and we are looking for a self-starter, who is able to own and develop it. We are looking for someone to define what awesome looks like, measure against that goal and drive getting there. To provide appropriate challenge to the “status quo” and bring a fresh perspective to Cloud security, helping to drive the safe adoption of it.
Responsibilities/Tasks
- Contribute to the creation of the Cloud Security Strategy and associated roadmaps.
- Build operational resilience in Cloud from a security perspective, security defence in depth.
- Creation of a security governance framework for Cloud, to ensure it is being appropriately managed and monitored from a security controls perspective.
- Identify security improvements, that drives efficiency and makes it easier to achieve “secure by design” and compliance with Defence Cyber Certification (DCC)
- Ensuring the cloud security strategy is fit for purpose and serves current requirements and flexible enough for near/medium term future
- Ensuring cloud security tooling is delivering the security value / reducing security risk and has the right people, process and metrics to prove it is working and is effective.
- Ensuring cloud security standards are up to date and serve intended purpose
- Create and review the cloud security risk register to ensure it is up to date and being managed properly
- Making sure any Post Incident Review actions, Audit findings / similar are followed up, helping to remove any blockers that would stop their completion
- Responsible for ensuring the Head of IT is well informed of any material issues that may arise, providing early warning so pre-emptive action can be taken
- Responsible for ensuring security governance is being applied in a proportionate and timely manner
- Ability to plan and adapt cloud security standards and tools in line with current trends and techniques in the service of achieving outcomes faster

Preferred Skills and/or Knowledge
- Manage cloud security posture across multi-tenant environments.
- Lead compliance efforts for DEFCON 658 and DEFSTAN 05-138 risk frameworks.
- Interface directly with MOD auditors and prime contractors.
- Design zero-trust architectures for cloud-only infrastructure.
- Experience with UK Ministry of Defence security protocols.
- Background in cloud security (AWS, Azure).
Qualification Requirements
- Any Industry-recognised credentials like CISSP, CISM or CCSP would be a bonus but not essential
- Right to work within the UK
- Ability to travel abroad to EU and non-EU territories
- Vetting and security clearance (as required by role, location or client)
