The Excelsior Trust is seeking an experienced Volunteer Marketing Specialist. This is a rare opportunity to play a meaningful role in safeguarding a nationally significant heritage asset while helping to build a sustainable future for maritime skills, education, and community engagement.
About the Trust
The Excelsior Trust is based in Lowestoft in the East of England. The Trust is the custodian of Excelsior LT472, a 1921 Lowestoft-built sailing trawler of national importance. The Trust offers sail training opportunities for young and disadvantaged people with ambitious voyages in the North Sea and the Baltic.
The Role
Working closely with the Board of Trustees and marine staff, the Volunteer Marketing specialist will develop and manage an effective marketing strategy by which the Trust can maximise take-up of its sail training places and utilisation of it's Lowestoft shipyard for maintenance of other historic vessels.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with staff and trustees to understand the charitable purposes of the Trust
- Review existing website, social media and other promotional output
- Define marketing campaigns for berth sales and yard clients
- Assist with CRM capability
- Coordinate the work of Trust managers and volunteers to deliver a professional and successful marketing strategy
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need prior maritime experience—what matters is experience in broad-ranging marketing roles, an affection for old boats and a desire to help the trust achieve its charitable objectives
Ideal attributes include:
- Experience in marketing using modern communication tools
- Strong written communication skills
- Confidence engaging with people and organisations
- Organised, proactive, and comfortable working independently
- An interest in heritage, education, or community-based organisations
- Professional experience (retired or semi-retired candidates very welcome)
Time Commitment
Flexible. Typically 4–8 hours per week. The role can be largely remote, with occasional in-person meetings.
