Franciscan Children's Hospital is seeking an innovative pediatric physician to join our growing inpatient medical team as a
Pediatric Hospitalist and Assistant Medical Director, Patient Access & Throughput.
This newly created position offers a unique opportunity to combine the care of medically complex children with meaningful physician leadership. Approximately
85% of the role is dedicated to inpatient clinical care, with
15% protected administrative time to partner with the Medical Director of the Inpatient Medical Units in leading initiatives that strengthen patient access, optimize clinical operations, and support the continued growth of Franciscan Children's.
Reporting directly to the Medical Director, this physician leader will work alongside hospital leadership to develop innovative systems that improve access to care, enhance patient flow, strengthen referral relationships, and ensure an exceptional experience for patients, families, and referring providers. The Assistant Medical Director will serve as a key leadership partner as Franciscan Children's continues to expand its affiliation with Boston Children's Hospital and prepares for the opening of a new state-of-the-art pediatric hospital in 2030.
This role is ideal for a physician who is energized not only by caring for children with complex medical needs, but also by improving systems of care, building multidisciplinary teams, and helping shape the future of pediatric post-acute and rehabilitative medicine.
Leadership Responsibilities (15%)
Working in close partnership with the
Medical Director of the Inpatient Medical Units and
nursing leadership, the Assistant Medical Director will help develop and lead Franciscan Children's Patient Access & Clinical Operations program. Together, this interdisciplinary leadership team will focus on ensuring timely access to care, efficient patient throughput, and outstanding coordination across the continuum of care.
Responsibilities include:

Partnering with the Medical Director and nursing leaders to develop and continuously improve the Patient Access & Clinical Operations program.

Collaborating with admissions, case management, patient experience, and clinical operations teams to optimize patient access, bed utilization, and throughput.

Participating in clinical review of referrals and supporting admission decision-making for medically complex pediatric patients.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with referring physicians, hospitals, and health systems throughout the region.

Identifying opportunities to improve referral processes, transfer efficiency, communication, and the overall experience for referring providers and families.

Leading multidisciplinary initiatives to improve patient flow, discharge planning, and transitions of care.

Using operational and clinical data to identify trends, monitor performance, and drive quality improvement initiatives.

Helping develop strategic plans that support future growth in patient volume, new clinical programs, and expanded regional partnerships.

Contributing to the organization's long-term vision as Franciscan Children's prepares for a new hospital opening in 2030, including expanded inpatient capacity and state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation facilities.
