Due to continued growth and development within our Finance team, we are seeking an experienced Senior Credit Controller to lead the University’s credit control activities, ensuring the effective collection of student fees and commercial income whilst supporting compliance with financial regulations and protecting the University's financial position.
About the Role
Reporting to the Exchequer Controller, you will play a key role in managing the University's debtor portfolio, ensuring income is collected efficiently and in accordance with University policies and relevant legislation. Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Student Services, Admissions and external stakeholders, you will help minimise financial risk whilst providing an excellent service to students, sponsors and commercial customers.
The role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including:
- Managing the collection of student fees and commercial debt, including liaison with students, sponsors, commercial customers and external agencies to resolve outstanding balances and agree payment arrangements.
- Producing regular management information on aged debt, cashflow forecasts, bad debt provisions and collection performance.
- Supporting compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) legislation, sanctions screening, fraud prevention and wider financial crime controls, including due diligence checks on higher-risk accounts.
- Maintaining accurate debtor records and contributing to the review and continuous improvement of credit control procedures, systems and reporting.
About you
We are looking for an experienced credit control professional with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the confidence to manage complex and sensitive financial matters.
You will:
- Have significant experience within credit control, ideally within higher education or another large, regulated organisation.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of debt recovery processes, financial controls and relevant legislation.
- Have knowledge of anti-money laundering requirements, fraud prevention and wider financial compliance frameworks.
- Be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and experienced in using finance or ERP systems.
- Have excellent analytical skills and the ability to produce meaningful financial reports and management information.
- Be organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities to meet demanding deadlines.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to enhance processes and controls.
