We are seeking a skilled and meticulous Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Technician to join our automotive repair team. In this role, you will be responsible for restoring damaged, scuffed, corroded, or scratched alloy wheels back to their original manufacturer standard. You will operate advanced specialized equipment, paint-spraying booths, and lathes. The ideal candidate combines the technical precision of a mechanic with the keen artistic eye of a paint specialist to deliver flawless finishes across all vehicle makes and models.
Core Responsibilities:
- Wheel Extraction: Safely jack up vehicles and remove wheels.
- Tyre Technical Work: De-valve, de-weight, strip, and safely refit tyres without damaging newly finished rims.
- Surface Preparation: Repair deep scratches, scuffs, dents, and curb damage using appropriate fillers and sanding methods.
- Custom Refurbishment: Apply wet paint finishes.
- Color Matching: Mix and match paints accurately to replicate original manufacturer colors or fulfill custom client requests.
- Diamond Cutting: Program and operate a specialized lathe to achieve a precision diamond-cut finish.
- Quality Control: Balance wheels and inspect finalized products to ensure they meet strict safety and aesthetic standards.
- Safety & Maintenance: Maintain workshop tools, handle chemicals securely, and strictly adhere to health and safety standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in wheel refurbishment, SMART repair, or vehicle body shop environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Proven proficiency with spray painting, powder coating, or lathe operation.
- Manual Dexterity: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and physical strength required for lifting heavy wheels and tyres.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot minor surface imperfections and deliver an absolute mirror or factory finish.
- Driving Credentials: A valid, clean driver's license to safely maneuver customer vehicles around the site.
Desirable Attributes
- Basic automotive mechanical knowledge (e.g., TPMS sensor resetting and torque guidelines).
- Strong time-management skills to hit daily vehicle handover schedules.
- Self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Pay: £30,000.00 per year
