We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician for the Wiring and Box Build department. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in wiring, cable assembly, crimping, soldering, looming, and electro-mechanical assembly within a manufacturing environment. Experience working from engineering drawings, wiring schedules, bills of materials, and build instructions would be highly beneficial.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Skills and competency tests may form part of the selection process.
Job Purpose:
To carry out the accurate wiring, assembly, and inspection of electronic and electro-mechanical products in line with FermionX manufacturing processes, customer requirements, quality standards, and health and safety procedures.
The role will involve preparing and assembling cables, looms, connectors, panels, and box-build assemblies, ensuring all work is completed to the required standard and in accordance with technical documentation. The Wireperson will be expected to maintain high standards of workmanship, complete production documentation accurately, and contribute to the timely delivery of defect-free products.
Key Responsibilities
Duties/Tasks will include:
- Cable preparation, stripping, crimping, tinning, soldering, and termination
- Wiring of assemblies, looms, panels, connectors, and electro-mechanical units
- Reading and working from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and build instructions
- Hand soldering and rework where required
- Mechanical assembly and box-build work
- Fitting connectors, sleeving, heatshrink, cable ties, labels, and protective coverings
- Carrying out visual inspection of own work to ensure high standards of workmanship
- Completing production documentation accurately and clearly
- Working in line with ESD controls, quality procedures, and health and safety requirements
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working area
- Supporting production targets and working effectively as part of the wider manufacturing team
Manufacturing Technician - other skills/knowledge required:
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
- Good understanding of wiring, crimping, soldering, and cable assembly techniques
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to consistently produce high-quality, defect-free work
- Good hand skills, dexterity, and hand-eye co-ordination
- Able to work effectively to deadlines
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Clear communication skills and ability to work well within a team
- Health and safety focused, with a tidy and organised approach to work
- Experience in an electronics, electrical, manufacturing, or assembly environment would be beneficial
- Experience working in a Lean manufacturing environment would be an advantage
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous experience in wiring, cable assembly, panel wiring, box-build, or electro-mechanical assembly is desirable
- Previous electronics manufacturing experience would be beneficial
- Basic computer literacy
- Awareness of IPC standards would be an advantage
- IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC J-STD-001, or IPC-A-610 certification would be beneficial but not essential, as training may be provided
- Educated to a reasonable level, including GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
