Supervisor – Doggy Daycare & Boarding Centre
Waggy’s | Great Abington, Cambridge
Waggy’s is looking for a capable, hands-on Supervisor to join our team and play an important role in both the day-to-day running and the next stage of our business.
Three years ago, Waggy’s was a start-up. Today, we’re a busy and growing dog daycare, boarding and grooming centre with a team of nine. We’ve grown quickly, and with a major expansion into the site next door ahead of us, we’re now looking to strengthen our management team and become better, more structured and more consistent in how we operate.
The Role
First and foremost, this is a hands-on operational Supervisor role.
You’ll be responsible for helping run the centre day-to-day: organising the team, overseeing the dogs in our care, making decisions, maintaining standards and making sure everything that needs to happen, happens.
On a typical day, that could mean:
- Coordinating staff and keeping the day running to schedule
- Socialising dogs within our different daycare groups
- Monitoring dog behaviour, welfare and group dynamics
- Maintaining standards of cleanliness and presentation across the centre
- Capturing photos and videos for our social media channels
- Dealing with customer queries and day-to-day issues
- Ensuring policies, procedures and standards are followed
- Helping with feeding, cleaning, moving dogs and other practical duties
- Reporting issues, progress and ideas to the higher management team
- Identifying ways to improve how the centre operates
It’s a busy, fast-paced environment, so we need someone who can keep an eye on the whole operation, prioritise quickly and make sure the team knows what they’re doing and why.
The Bigger Picture
Waggy’s has grown rapidly over the last three years, and our systems, processes and management structure now need to grow with us.
Our next phase is about professionalising the business: introducing better processes, clearer standards, stronger policies, more accountability and greater consistency across everything we do.
In simple terms, we want to take some of the best things about larger, well-run organisations and bring them into Waggy’s – without losing the personality and flexibility of an independent business.
The successful person will therefore not just help run what already exists. We want you to help us improve it.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- A confident and natural leader
- Highly organised and able to see the bigger picture
- Comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions
- Positive, practical and calm in a fast-moving environment
- Good at getting the best out of people
- Able to maintain standards and hold people accountable
- Someone who notices when something could be done better – and does something about it
- Comfortable introducing structure, processes and new ways of working
- Happy being hands-on rather than managing from the sidelines
- Ambitious and interested in developing alongside a growing business
Previous professional dog experience is strongly preferred, but by no means obligatory.
We can teach a strong candidate a lot about the dog side of Waggy’s. What we particularly want to bring into the business is leadership, organisation, consistency and management experience.
