About the role
Join our Painter Brothers team in Hereford and play a hands-on role in delivering Right First Time fabrication. As a Quality Inspector, you’ll be the expert eyes on the ground—protecting safety, strengthening compliance, and ensuring our customers receive defect-free work they can trust.
As a Welding Quality Control Inspector, you will play a key role in ensuring welded steel fabrications are manufactured to the required drawings, specifications, welding standards, and customer requirements. Working closely with production, engineering, and programming teams, you will help identify welding and fabrication issues, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement across the business.
Once training is complete, you will be required to work a rotating shift pattern, covering 6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm shifts.
What you'll be doing
- Carry out visual inspections of welded fabrications throughout the manufacturing process and prior to dispatch.
- Verify that welding and fabrication activities are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and customer requirements.
- Inspect weld quality, fit-up, dimensions, and overall workmanship to ensure compliance with required standards.
- Identify welding defects and quality concerns, ensuring they are clearly documented and communicated to the relevant departments.
- Work with production, engineering, and programming teams to investigate quality issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Support the development of preventative measures to reduce recurring welding and fabrication defects.
- Promote a "right first time" culture by providing timely feedback and guidance to manufacturing teams.
- Monitor and record inspection results, ensuring accurate and traceable quality records are maintained.
- Assist in developing and improving welding inspection processes, quality checks, and fabrication standards.
- Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained to support accurate inspection activities.
- Liaise with welders and supervisors to ensure quality requirements are understood and achieved throughout production.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Good communication skills
- Observant and high levels of attention to detail.
- Good report writing and numeracy skills.
- Good IT skills (knowledge of MS Office 365)
- Ability to work to deadlines.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Knowledge of ISO 9001
- Knowledge of Fabrication and Welding Techniques.
- Knowledge of Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Dye Penetrant Inspection.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and process controls
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
